Re: What is in store for the next LTS with all the changes?

It seems like Mint gets flash to work better than other distros somehow I guess if there was anything I would have to figure out it would be how to get flash to behave right.

Re: What is in store for the next LTS with all the changes?

How does changing the DE in a Mint Distro effect all of Mint's little tweaks? Do you have to re-enable any?

What is in store for the next LTS with all the changes?

I have some questions with all the changes coming in the Ubuntu stack. I have been just using LTS versions of Mint on my day to day system since 2008 and I have found it to be fantastic! I will try Gnome 3 or whatever but if I don't like it I am considering moving to Xfce, but I noticed Mint Xfce ha...

Re: unwanted packages in Mint Update

I have a similar issue, once I get a working system I lock down all my kernel and graphics packages. As kernel a graphics updated frequently break graphics and other niceties on my installs I would like to have an option not to see updates for these packages. Ideally it would be nice to have menu wh...

Re: DVD "no libdvdcss" I checked its there?

Later tonight or tomorrow I look into doing a block copy and checking integrity of the drive or something then. I know there is a command to do something to that effect. At any rate I'm beginning to think it may not be a dvd codec problem.

Re: DVD "no libdvdcss" I checked its there?

I have tried several, I'm starting to think somehow it could be hardware. If everyone else can play dvds and I can't logic would suggest my computer is somehow different.

DVD "no libdvdcss" I checked its there?

I have had a problem playing DVD's lately with ubuntu and mint. I'm using Felicia right now. I tried reinstalling libdvdcss I tried different players. I burn all my operating systems to dvd and they install fine. I have an unencrypted Saturday night live disk(official store bought) that plays fine. ...

Thanks Clem, you explained your decision well. A box would be cool but I'll live. If your heart wasn't in it Clem I'm sure it would not be the same so do what you love.

Re: Sell Mint in the U.S. with legal codecs?

I don't like software patents either but they are there and the dvd codec and the digital millenium copyright act are probably the ugliest of all. Plus booklets and boxes are nice you could do a double sided multiboot dvd with gnome, kde, etc. Best of all if there is interest it could probably raise...

Re: Sell Mint in the U.S. with legal codecs?

including the codecs is questionable but makes the multimedia experience on this distro super stable and easy. As for Linux being free the cost would mostly go to the codecs I would assume but clem could take in a little. I was curious to see if clem wanted to try to put mint out there in a box or i...

Sell Mint in the U.S. with legal codecs?

Clem I was wondering if you had ever considered licensing the codecs and things for Mint and selling a fully legit copy in the U.S. Would that be difficult I love Mint but there is always lingering feeling? I would be interested in buying a mint disc with codecs and stuff on the long term releases i...

Re: I think an update made a mess.

Locking the version on a package prevents it from being upgraded. I'll show you two ways to do this. The first is to open a terminal and type: sudo aptitude hold linux-image-`uname -r` Those ` are backticks, usually located to the left of the 1/! key. For those who prefer to use GUIs, open Synaptic ...

SOlVED: I think an update made a mess.

Hey guys I got the updates from late yesterday installed the one with the -18 kernel since then I have not been able to get the nvidia driver to work again. I tried reinstalling the driver. Wifi is also down but its usually pretty easy to fix so I have been concentrating on graphics. I'm about to do...
