Re: Mint 12 KDE

I'm really disappointed at the news that Mint KDE 12 will be Ubuntu-based. I was really hoping to be able to update LMDE with updated KDE packages and I really don't want to go back to an Ubuntu-based distro. I guess I've tasted the freedom of Debian and I don't want to go back. I am glad that LM K...

I am still on LM 11, too. But for me prepared LM 12 KDE will resolve this. I am looking forward to it.

Re: Mint 12 KDE

Maybe some advice for future.
This time I have Kubuntu 11.10 in vmware virtual machine.
Before installing package kubuntu-low-fat-settings I had more than 300MB RAM occupied after login.
After that package installing I manage to decrease to 200 MB.

This might be useful after releasing LM 12 KDE.

Re: Linux Mint KDE news

I am glad that LM KDE will have Ubuntu base. I was running on LMDE some weeks ago, but I was missing some things like wifi automatic support, automatic slovak localization which I had in ubuntu-based LM 11. So after week I returned on LM 11. Since this I was satisfied again. Everything was working wi...

Re: Linux Mint KDE news

I used to run Mint KDE 10. I'm currently running Kubuntu 11.10, and that release has been fabulous. Hoping the Mint edition is even better. I'm really interested in the idea of a rolling release, and am wondering if the news is about a Mint Debian KDE release, or a straight Mint release? New LM KDE...

Re: Linux Mint KDE news

The KDE version we’re working on at the moment is Ubuntu-based. No decision was taken yet on whether this desktop edition was to be supported by or ported to LMDE. For now, our priority is to get the KDE edition out and our target is to do it before Christmas… if it’s ready before then, I can’t tel...

Re: Mint 12 'fallsback' under VMware

That was my thinking. My guess is for whatever reason LM12 can't 'see' the video acceleration in VMware - yet Ubuntu can? LM 12 with Gnome 3 needs graphical acceleration and Ubuntu Unity too. But in vmware virtual you see unity 2D instead of original 3D. Unity 2D is very similar original Unity 3D b...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

What purpose do you think it (chatting) serves? Very good question for Forkjulle. :?: I am former longtime Mandrake/Mandriva user. After releasing Mandriva 2011 it was impossible to continue Mandriva for me. So I decided for Mint after some trying other distributions. I said goodbye at mandriva for...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

Gnome 3 is great, in my opinion. Interestingly, Ubuntu 11.10 works better for me than Mint 11 (or 12). My work flow - in Unity - has sped up, contrary to the belief of the angry Gnome 3 protesters. Mint 12 is a bit disjointed, but that's not Mint's fault. I did not understand you. You migrated to u...

Such a silly stupid question.
I like when people, who did not live/lived in socialistic countries, are talking about socialism. :!:

I do not know whether this is bug.
But I mentioned, that mintUpdate icon is not at panel after login into Mate. Icon appeared and remains at panel after manual start of update manager.

I do not see any reason for using MGSE.

Re: linux mint 11 with /home from ubuntu

I have kept essentially the same /home through various distros and many years. Same do I. When I plan to install new system, I rename my /home/user (for eaxmple) to /home/old. Then I create new user account during installation process. After login into new user account, I copy only my personal need...

Anyhow for reasons we learnt in school for human machine interaction is that in a perfect world the user sits in front of his/her screen and looks down at an approximate angle of 10-20° down on his / her screen and interacts with it. For physical reasons the human eye has a larger angle of sight do...
