Re: Converting 32bit CD into 64bit DVD

First backup any data you have on Linux mint, then uninstall Mint4Win before your install from DVD. You don't need to have an internet connection during installation, but you will be missing some updates. You can connect to internet later and download any updates.

Re: 32 and 64 bit

In the case of 2GB memory, use whichever you want :D Just don't go back to 16 bits  If you don't have a system with more the 4 GB, you don't have to use 64 bits (and even then, you could stick to 32 bits with PAE), For any data crunching applications like rendering, music/video encoding, archi...

Re: Black screen

And if you start it in compatibility mode? Probably there is a problem with support for one of your hardware devices, causing failure of the boot. Also, press TAB at either the default start or compatibility line, and remove the words splash and quiet from the end. This will allow you to see any boo...

Re: mint desktop environment?

With respect, but isn't this is a bit of a silly question? You don't have to choose "unity OR gnome shell" -- GNOME 3 does not mandate the use of Shell. GNOME 3 is a good thing, and the Shell is optional. You can just run GNOME 3 without the Shell, and with making any needed adjustments to the Linux...

Re: Full disk encryption ????????

I don't what to dissuade you from using full disk encryption, but be aware of what it won't do for you: - It won't protect your system files any extra from programs or persons with malicious intent, while you are logged in. - If you don't take extra actions, it won't protect your system files agains...

Re: Where did Title Bar in my Programs go?

2. Does this mean I'm using Compiz? Is there something that is uses less computing power than Compiz? What? Yes. At the login screen, when you enter your password, at the bottom in the selection box choose "Gnome (no effects)" to disable Compiz. Choice remains in effect until you change it at that ...

Re: Change background image in "choose your OS" screen

See your other post on how to move an image to a location outside of your home directory, in case you have encryption turned on. Let's assume the wallpaper you want is "/usr/share/backgrounds/thisone.jpg". Then: gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub Change or add the following line: GRUB_BACKGROUND=/usr/sh...

Re: change background image in Linux Mint Login Screen

Following three steps can accomplish this. There are probably other ways, but this is the one I know :D 1. Install Ubuntu Tweak, if you don't already have it. Run the following commands from Terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak 2. ...

That would probably be Linux Format #148 :D http://www.linuxformat.com/archives?issue=148

I just got it today, has a one page review for Linux Mint 11 scoring 8/10. Also a 4 page interview "Inside Linux Mint" with Clement Lefebvre and Kendall Weaver. Great read!

Re: A little introduction..........(or not) ;-)

Welcome to Linux Mint! :D Seeing as you have multiple laptops/PCs, you might also want to look into the Linux Mint Debian Edition as that is a bit faster than the Ubuntu based Linux Mint 11 on less powerful machines. A respin of Linux Mint Debian Edition is on the way (with improved testing on updat...

The BIOS on my machine takes about 20 seconds to run POST, that is not going to improve with a SSD.
But after the BIOS hands over to the operating system, Linux Mint loads in 6.08 seconds with this SSD :D (the smile on that smiley is not big enough!).

Re: Banshee sound menu integration in Debian

They are in the Ubuntu repos. You can try downloading a .deb file and installing it manually. Following is link to the packages, just click through to probably natty and download the correct package (i386 for 32 bits, amd64 for 64 bits): http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=banshee-extension-s...

Re: Help with Installing Linux to Existing Partition

Before you do anything else--now you know you can boot with the Live CD from Linux Mint--backup the data on your harddisk! You can access the Windows drives from the Live CD, and copy data to an external disk.

Re: Unresponsive firefox 5 stops for a few sec and the respo

Probable causes: 1. You have extensions installed that slow Firefox down (things like Adblock Plus, NoScript and such can significantly hinder performance if you use multiple extensions of that sort) 2. You are opening a lot of tabs, and your machine doesn't have the resources needed If you are will...
