Re: can I use Linux in Northern Cyprus

You mean from a legal perspective? Sure. If I'm correct, Turkish is the language for Northern Cyprus. Do you read Turkish? Download the Turkish user manual for Linux Mint 11 . You can do the installation of Linux Mint 11 or LMDE in Turkish also. You may also consider Pardus , a Turkish developed Lin...

Re: linux mint 10 running slow!

Fragmentation is not an issue with Ext4 file systems. That it takes a long time to open and close programs is due to you have less than 0.5 GiB of memory (I'm assuming you have a integrated graphics card, that takes some of the main memory). You should be able to run with 0.5 GiB of memory, but not ...

Okay, then update through Update Manager to 5.2.2, apparently you are encountering a bug from 5.2.0 that was fixed in 5.2.2.

Re: Cannot adjust number of columns in start menu

I've just tried this on my Linux Mint 11 GNOME, and go to 3 columns at least it works there. My mintmenu version is 5.2.2. Are you perhaps using LXDE, else check you have the same version (from terminal): dpkg -l mintmenu You may also try to reload the menu (from terminal or Alt+F2): killall mintmen...

Re: xfce is blinky in new installation

Please share output of running the following command from a terminal: inxi -F This will help us suggest something specific to your hardware. First suggestion would be to hold shift during boot, to get the GRUB menu to show. Then press 'e' to edit the boot parameters. Scroll down to the line starting...

Re: Mint 11 LiveDVD can't boot

Try booting the CD/DVD (32 bits and 64 bits both will work), and at the countdown screen press a key. Now press TAB on the first highlighted line to edit the boot parameters. See if you can get it to boot if you change 'quiet splash' with 'nomodeset acpi=off vga=normal' (without the quotes).

Re: Mint 11 LXDE theme - Firefox menu fonts & scrollbar

Overlay scrollbars in Firefox I think are planned for Ubuntu 11.10, so will be available on Linux Mint 12. The issue is (also for GNOME BTW) that Firefox uses different framework / libraries than most applications, so additional work is needed from the Ubuntu developers to add overlay scrollbars to ...

Re: Show Desktop by Clicking an Application?

I'm not sure you can hide all windows by clicking on the terminal embedded on the desktop, but there are other ways: - Super + D shows the desktop (Super = Windows key). - wmctrl command allows you to show the desktop (you need to install it with sudo apt-get install wmctrl): wmctrl -k on - in Compi...

Re: Mint 11 installation hangs every time

Ok, I got ubuntu working and installed that. Then I started having problems after I tried to compile my own kernel. I tried to do a reinstall of mint 11 with the compatibility mode, but it still hangs after starting X. Both OSes give me read errors on bootup, so I think something is also wrong with...

Re: 32 Bit vs 64 Bit

That is good for software from those repositories, but doesn't help a bit for software from outside those repositories. ia32-libs should be installed by default on 64 bits. I remember not being able to run games from the recent Humble Bundle offering, until some bright soul on the forums shared you ...

Re: mintBackup bogged down over named pipe files

Named pipes make no sense to backup I think, as it is basically a FIFO (first in, first out) bucket for interprocess communication (sharing information between two or more running processes). If you restore a named pipe, what will the receiving application do with the bucket of information from the...

Are you sure it is the screensaver? It might the power manager that switches of your screen.

Regardless, here is another post from somebody wanting to block the screensaver from working: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=80585

Re: Connecting 2 Mint Machines

Alright then, I'm going to spend some time with Samba and see if I can get it set up. If computer A is the server, can it take and receive files from computer B? Or is it only a one-way relationship? Thanks for the help! TD If you setup Samba in read-only mode, the remote machine can only take file...

Re: Connecting 2 Mint Machines

Server is just a word, usually used to describe a machine dedicated to serving something (like web pages for a web server) and that is always connected to a network (and powered on). Samba server is just a piece of software on your computer, and you need to connect to the Samba server on the other m...

Re: Connecting 2 Mint Machines

Server = the other machine :D Take the IP address of the other machine, and connect to that. It is acting as server (it is serving files, so it is a server).
