Re: Simple Cookie Manager App

Well, I just use the following: - Go to Preferences from menu - Go to Privacy tab - Change "Firefox will" to "Use custom settings for history" - Change "Keep until" to "I close Firefox" - Then punch the Exceptions button and "Allow" those websites for which you want to keep cookies All websites can ...

Re: Booting Mint11 Katya Takes 20 min.

Can you please open Terminal (find it in menu) and do the following: gzip -c /var/log/dmesg > ~/dmesg.gz And please upload the dmesg.gz file from your home folder here (see the "Upload attachment" tab at the bottom of the post a reply page). This will allow us to see your boot messages, so we can fi...

Re: mint4win

Perhaps it can indeed be done, but as you indicate you are very new to this I would suggest the alternative. Backup any important files (you should have a backup anyway, in case a harddisk breaks or something), and reinstall Linux Mint. During installation, tell it to use "entire disk". That is the ...

Re: Hard drive and DVD Drive Error... Help ! :o

Well, the SMART data that is shown for your harddisk is coming directly from the monitoring chip in the harddisk itself. The harddisk is warning you that it is failing. Please check your BIOS if you also have a ability there to do a harddisk test or read the SMART data. If you still have warranty fr...

Re: Sandy Bridge new computer lagging

Another frequent suggestion is to downgrade Compiz to more stable version, but I'm not sure that would apply here. Are you using the open source driver for Nvidia, or the proprietary drivers? By default you use the first, and it might really help to install the latter. From Terminal (find it in Menu...

Re: nouveau blanking screen every 20-30 seconds with nv fx52

Perhaps try the proprietrary nvidia-glx driver from Nvidia? or have you tried that already? Google on "linux nvidia fx5200" gives promising search results of people getting everything working with that.

Re: File Permission

Hi, can you share the path of the file you are trying to change? And is this on your harddisk, a cd/dvd, a usb stick, or something on a network share?

Re: Problem running Linux Mint 11 from dvd

Thank you, Vincent! I was able to get into the installation after the boot from dvd. BUT, I got hung up trying to name my computer; no matter what I used (planets, flowers, vulgarities) a message popped up saying "name already exists in the network" sometimes before I finish typing a name.Am i doin...

Re: Current State of AMD Drivers?

So what Intel cards are out there that would be good for gaming? I mean I don't need anything spectacular...but I'd like to be able to play stuff like red eclipse and Homeworld 2 (using WINE). I've never even really thought about Intel before  Well, it is not suited for very heavy 3D games or...

Re: Current State of AMD Drivers?

I can't get the Radeon 6750 or Radeon 6770 chips working properly with either the open source diver (3D is dead slow) or with the proprietary driver (will install, but breaks after reboot). So I'd avoid those two chips at least. Open source supported has some info here: https://help.ubuntu.com/commu...

Re: [Solved]Change of Linux OS

But will be a Gnome 3 version?? If you want Gnome 3, that might come Linux Mint 12 later this year (without Shell, as Ubuntu is moving to Gnome 3 and Linux Mint is based on that). Also, you can already install Gnome 3 on Linux Mint 11. There have been several topics of people on these forums gettin...

Re: Problem running Linux Mint 11 from dvd

@Nino131, I suggest you create a new topic at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=46 for your problem. Putting your request for support in somebody else's topic is a bit rude and also risks your problem not being seen by the experts (as you didn't create a new topic for it).

Re: How to start samba server automatically

Normally, smdb starts automatically. I know because I had to figure out how to stop it from starting as I don't need it but it was running with open ports (security risk). First, check if the process is really not running after boot: initctl status smbd Is it stop/waiting? Then it is indeed disabled...
