Re: Is LM 11 A Step Back?

For Compiz problems on LM 11, recommended action is to downgrade to more stable version of Compiz. Especially with Cube. Find solution on other forum post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=74869&start=0 As for your problems with Mac, should be possible. Enough people tripple boot OS ...

Re: create script to run command on remote computer

I think you need to give the commands to ssh, as below. For longer actions, create a script on the remote machine that you can invoke through ssh when needed.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh

ssh root@192.168.1.5 'sleep 10 ; qm start 112'

Confirmed on Linux Mint 11 Katya 64 bits, with all updates applied. I can neither remove a separator, nor add a new one.

Re: rhythmbox pluggins

I think you need to create the directory:

Code: Select all

mkdir ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins/
and copy that Fullscreenview folder there.

Re: The new "Linux Mint Book"

I though this would be about a Linux Mint book, as in a paper book. Doh. Too bad, because I would buy that. As for laptops, I don't like those :) It is a nice suggestion, but I think it will take a lot of leverage to get to cooperate with a hardware company on this. Also, I think the big names in la...

Re: email server

I think this topic should go in "Newbie" forum. Have you tried Google? http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/ seems to cover everything you need to set up your own email server, and is the first hit on Google if you search for "linux email server".

Re: LMDE Binary Blobs

LMDE is based off Debian 6 iirc, which has a completely free kernel (no binary blobs or non-free firmware). So I would assume yes, there is no binary blobs or non-free firmware in the LMDE kernel.

I'm not sure how the installer could intelligently suggest a solution, that really depends on the co...

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!

Hi, I think you should mark this post as [SOLVED] (edit original post, add that to the title). Below is the relevant part for your audio problems. If you Google "SBx00 Azalia" you get a lot of hits with people having issues with that on Linux, and what they did to resolve it. If you can not fix it, ...

Re: Getting blank screen with cursor after connecting DVD Dr

We need the specific make & model number for any help on this. It working in Windows doesn't mean anything, if the company behind the CD drive doesn't provide Linux support or if the Linux community has not written a driver for it. Normally a CD drive wouldn't need a very specific driver (it being a...

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!

Good work getting wireless to work on Linux! I'm very doubtful this being in any way the cause with problems on Windows, but can not help you with that platform. Please put the output of command "sudo lspci -v" here, there will be a section "Audio device" in there that will show your sound chip (you...

Re: Firefox won't play MP4 audio streams

Thanks. I hope gstreamer0.10-pitfdll is not the problem though... It is not in the Mint repos, and Debian unstable repos only have 32 bits version that won't install because of incorrect architecture.

[Solved] Firefox won't play MP4 audio streams

I'm unable to playback MP4 audio streams from a favorite website with Firefox, that did work on Ubuntu 11.04. Using Linux Mint 11 64-bits, fresh install from DVD with all updates applied. That should cover all my codec and plugin needs I thought. Other than loading Ubuntu on VirtualBox and comparing...

Re: Need help with Wireless Network Card!

Should work. Copy the file to Linux, and rename to file to usb.ids (no .txt part). Run "vi usb.ids" in the terminal where you have the file, and MAKE SURE the lines do no end in ^M characters, that would mean Windows has messed up your file. You will need to run dos2unix command to fix that, which i...

Re: Only two install options (Katya)

The bright side: erasmus is running Linux now, so thumbs up for that. Linux has a learning curve, and starting with a distro that works OOTB really helps people stick with Linux (at least it did for me).
