Looks like it is using the wrong font. Or this is a new feature for Linux of the Skype overlords at Microsoft.

Re: Linux Mint 11 Window Maker Edition

Glad to read you can get Mint 11 running on a machine with more limited memory, though I never could understand Window Maker properly (back in 1999).

Re: Control C and program termination

Ctrl+C sends the SIGINT signal to the foreground process, telling it to gracefully quit and return the prompt to the user.

Re: Passwords ???? Xbox 360 ????

You need only enter your password for administrative tasks, like updates or changing settings that affect the system. After installation this is indeed quite often as you finish setup and tweak the system to your preferences, but for normal day to day use you will hardly need your password.

Go to http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-laptop.html, scroll down to "Linux Laptop Vendors". Or Google that same phrase.

Or let us know what country you are in for specific advice.

Re: XChat not saving sound settings

I tried to do it, and just as you said the program allows you to set the sounds, but it doesn't save them. No configuration files are changed upon setting the sounds. This looks like bug in the program. You can search for open XChat bugs, or log a new bug on this issue: http://xchat.org/cvs/

Re: Another attempt to stop Linux installations?

If I would consider buying a laptop, I would go for Lenovo or HP--based on compatibility. And before you guys make me get my asbestos suit, I can buy HP laptops (and Lenovo or Acer) with Linux pre-installed locally. That is also without Windows tax. Currently they only pre-install Ubuntu iirc, but m...

Re: Duel Boot Problem

Read this bit: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB2#Dual-booting. You will have to edit the file /etc/grub.d/40_custom and add your Windows XP partition there, follow the instructions.

Alternatively, you can install os-prober from the repos to help with this I gather.

Re: Slowdown

Some more tips: 1. You can run command "top" in the terminal, and look for applications that take the most memory and see if you can install lightweight alternatives for those. 2. You can run command "initctl | grep running" in the terminal, and look for services you don't need to run and switch tho...

Re: Linux mint 11 'Mouse buffer'

Mouse buffer only works as long as the original text is still selected. Once you select some other text or remove the selection, it is gone. It should not be the case that if you select some text AAA, press CTRL+C to copy it, then select some other text BBB, and press middle-button somewhere else it...

Re: Linux mint 11 'Mouse buffer'

Hi, the mouse buffer is automatic. You select some text with the mouse, and *bam*, it is in the mouse buffer! To paste it from the mouse buffer you have to middle-click your mouse (click the scrollwheel if you do not have 3 buttons). If you don't have three buttons, or a scrollwheel doesn't click, p...

Re: Move items in Start Menu

If you have a Control Center in LM 10, open that, else open Preferences. Then open Main Menu. Here you can edit the Main Menu. You can drag LibreOffice draw to another category there.
