Re: [BUG] Can't add search engines in FF 78

Howdy folks. The search engines pages on https://linuxmint.com/searchengines.php have been updated with instructions how to add them through page actions menu. The "click here" links have been removed as that functionality is no longer in FF78.

Re: Wifi not working with Intel PRO/Wireless 4965

Looking through other iwl4965 issues in this forum I stumbled upon something that looks related. Apparently for this chip the 802.11n is very unreliably and it's better to disable it. Try the following: 1. Disconnect the phone tethering. 2. Run these two commands to unload the iwl4965 driver and the...

Re: linux mint 20, Firefox 78 and broken add search engine

Yes, as I wrote earlier Firefox won't offer to add a search engine you've already added.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Problems

It's is still broken xenopeek, haven't got round to bug reporting it again yet. Fixed: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/commit/31314e2968fb8c6755a6b94da54f540b700fc07e The issue was with the first custom shortcut set, that wouldn't activate until restart of Cinnamon. In the same session adding...

Re: linux mint 20, Firefox 78 and broken add search engine

This isn't a bug though. The function "window.external.AddSearchProvider" used by websites to let you "click here" to add a search engine was removed from the HTML standard a long time ago. Firefox 78 is just catching up with that: https://www.fxsitecompat.dev/en-CA/docs/2020/window-external-addsear...

Sounds like another issue. Hopefully somebody else can suggest what else to try for iwl4965 driver not letting you connect to servers.

Re: Wifi not working with Intel PRO/Wireless 4965

I read a lot of issues for that chip with Linux. To confirm the same issue, run this command:
dmesg | grep iwl
Does it show any messages about firmware not loading or not being found?

Re: Mint 20 Cinnamon Desktop Settings?

I really can't say unless you modified files in system directories. Try reinstalling it: apt install --reinstall cinnamon-common If that doesn't help try starting it from the terminal cinnamon-settings desktop Share output here if any errors (you can ignore deprecation warnings). Still no clues? Che...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Problems

Hm. There was an issue for that earlier but I think it should be fixed in the current Cinnamon version: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9375. I've asked mtwebster.

Re: mint20 firefox bloat

How search engines can be added to Firefox was changed in a recent release of Firefox. That's not something Linux Mint did. Here are the steps to add a search engine on Firefox 78.0.1: In Firefox go to Preferences > Search > (at the bottom) Find more search engines ; On that page click the icon of t...

Re: About network related issue.

** Do linux mint have any network related problem? Like slow internet and not having any internet at all? Linux Mint doesn't have any networking issues of its own. But it might be the case the specific network device your system has is badly supported by its manufacturer on Linux and your specific n...

Re: Mint 20 Cinnamon Desktop Settings?

It's part of Cinnamon Settings and not something that can be installed (or removed) separately. Open System Settings from your menu and you will find Desktop in the Preferences section. That is for configuring which icons are shown on your desktop and where. Desktop background you configure there th...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Problems

Super+N is a system shortcut for notifications so try something else. I tried Super+T and that worked. I did have to restart Cinnamon to make it activate the shortcut (Atl+F2 → r → Enter). Test command I used was zenity --info which just pops up a dialog window.

Re: Warpinator questions

Yes. The new features in Linux Mint 20 https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_ulyana_cinnamon_whatsnew.php explains it as such: 10 years ago, Linux Mint 6 featured a tool called "Giver" which could share files across the local network. Without any server or configuration, computers would automatically see ea...

Is the user member of the nopasswdlogin group? You can check in Users & Groups. Users in that group don't automatically log in but can be logged in without password prompt. To automatically log in without any action on the login screen, open Login Window from your menu and set that user to automatic...

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts Problems

Which edition are you using? Cinnamon, MATE or Xfce? If you don't know check in System Information or in System Reports in your menu. And what doesn't work? Can't you set a keyboard shortcut? Can you set up but doesn't it trigger the command when pressed? Give an example of a keyboard shortcut that ...
