Re: I am seeing a lot of updates

As gm10 wrote, they're mostly bug fixes. Look at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/bionic-changes/2018-July/date.html (or whichever month you're in) for clues. Also, there are changelogs that may have information. You could poke around in http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/ to find, for ex...

Re: Kernel 4.15.0-24 won't boot passed grub - Mint 19 Mate

The official kernels that you get via the Update Manager are generally safe, this -24 situation is an exception, made worse by the fact that many mirrors are apparently super slow to update their repositories - that kernel was removed by Ubuntu nearly a week ago now. While I haven't yet had problem...

to close the currently selected window, dialog, or tab in LMX.
+1 gm10.

I very much doubt you can have one command that deals with closing tabs as well as with closing normal windows and tabs in applications.

Re: [19beta] pdfchain out?

@MSNBC, @Marziano, @thx-1138, the Ask Ubuntu question in post #5 now has an answer (https://askubuntu.com/a/1048975) indicating that a snap for pdftk is available. I don't use snaps or flatpaks (or pdftk) myself but just thought I mention it :)

Re: DE or Distro with REAL scrollbars

I get the impression that the length of the jump is not random, but related to how far below or above the slider I clicked. Anyway, I never use scroll bars by clicking near them... I had no idea you could even do that. I grab them and move them. If I want to jump one page up or down, I use the page...

I'm still faced with the problem that my expected behavior is:

Click above or below the slider, and move one page up or down.

...
What you want is "legacy scrolling".

It might be easier if you mention the program's name. Or is it the case for all programs? Have you checked permissions?

One day with one distro, one day with another until I find The One distro that suits me best. So it happens The One distro was Mint Cinnamon.
That's great. I'm sure you're perfectly happy. So let others be happy too with their choices :D

Re: Migrate to Kubuntu 18.04

I would be very careful with copying over hidden files/folders in your home folder from and older system to newer one. There maybe incompatibilities arising from changes in the software that generates these hidden files/folders.

Have you tried watching video with VLC? That's included in Kubuntu 18.04.

Re: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS to use Xorg by default

LOL , saves 500mb. :P Not worth it unless they can make it small enough to fit on a 3-inch DVD i.e. <=1.4GB :P This new minimal install is available as an option within the regular iso. So, even if you want to go the minimal install route, you need to download and make a Live USB (or whatever) of t...

My experiences with Kubuntu and LM18 told me that 4.15.0-15 works fine but not 4.15.0-20 or later. The packaging has changed.

Code: Select all

$ uname -r
4.15.0-22-generic
$
Works just fine on Kubuntu 18.04.

Evil, naive or interesting? The first question worth asking, in this case, is whether the publisher was in fact doing anything wrong, considering that mining cryptocurrency is not illegal or unethical by itself. https://blog.ubuntu.com/2018/05/15/trust-and-security-in-the-snap-store God help us if ...
