Re: Programs Don't Run in WINE

WineHQ appears to focus largely on games. Does anyone know of links to a list of other (non-game) applications that work via Wine?

Re: My opened applications not showing on Panel

I am running the latest Linux Mint 11 (with the gnome desktop). ... I have experienced some issues sporadically when rebooting. There are error messages stating that some things were not working on the panel which it prompts whether to delete or not. Anyway, without reading it I deleted it. ... Me ...

Re: Mint 11 (GNOME): How do I know everything is okay?

... Minus ... I've lost my clock applet from the bottom right-corner. After logging in, I got a message which I forgot to copy down. There's a thread about 64-bit system losing applets but I don't know if it's connected. Anyway, I'd like to get it back :) and would be most grateful for advice on ho...

Re: Mint 11 (GNOME): How do I know everything is okay?

To get your clock back, right-click on the spot where you'd like it to appear, and click "Add to panel". Choose "Clock" from the list that appears, and then click "Add". You may have to tinker with it a bit to make it display everything to your liking, but that shouldn't be too hard. Thank you! :D ...

Re: PCLinuxOS KDE 2011.6 is now available for download

... I mean the devs behind many of the nix distributions work hard. They pour mucho time, energy and talent ( not to mention no doubt some $ ) into the end result. Then let whoever likes use it freely. Could somewhat understand the negative reaction to some end user who benefits from all their work...

Mint 11 (GNOME): How do I know everything is okay?

I've been using Mint 11 on a 32-bit Dell Inspiron laptop with 2 GB RAM and no shortage of disk space for a couple of days: Activities browsing (with Aurora 7 and Epiphany) including pages with Flash, playing music with the GNOME MPlayer, opening spreadsheets with LibO, updating whenever the shield i...

[Solved] Selective updates

I'm on Mint 11 main edition but I came across this: This needs to be said again LMDE is not Ubuntu ! you need to install all five levels of updates. If you do not, you will find yourself with package dependencies which are not the right version, this will screw up your system. The Mint team has not ...

Re: Official Firefox-6/7/8 "Aurora" thread

ian59, don't use the PPA, it's absolutely useless. Follow what I said in my last post, it's simple and no install to do. :D And if I'm not mistaken, removing Aurora is then simply a matter of deleting the containing folder. I got mine from here: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/ which ...

Windows user's few comments ...

Hi, I would just like to mention a few things in my short use of Mint 11. 1. The installation: It's much, much better to go for the full version than the CD version without codecs etc if you don't face legal restrictions. The context is this: I tried to economize on internet usage. But that thinking...

I'm glad you found a solution to your problem. To help other users who may have a similar problem to quickly find threads that were helpful, it's appreciated if you'd click the 'EDIT' button on your original post and add [SOLVED] to the subject line. Done! Is it possible to delete those two images ...

Re: Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation with Win 7

Sorry for the all caps but .... SUCCESS !!!! :D I used gparted from the Mint Live USB to bung out the old stuff and concentrated on getting my internet connection working. Turns out I needed to be connected to the 'net for installing. Since I got rid of the extra stuff, I again got the install side-...

Re: Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation with Win 7

There is no need to expand the D drive (unless you need more space for D) because the Mint installer is going to use that to install Mint / partition and SWAP. You should now install with that new option. I tried to install alongside and got an error that some file failed to copy and that the error...

Re: Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation with Win 7

Well, I transferred whatever I had on my "E" drive to the "D" drive and used the facility in Windows 7 to delete a partition to delete the E drive. So now I have just the boot sector, the C drive and the D drive. Do I need to expand the D drive or will Mint see the freed up space and use it? I ran t...

Re: Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation with Win 7

You can select any information in a terminal with the mouse and do a simple copy and paste. Use the "Quote" forum button and past inside the quotes. Partitioning is a serious task as it can break your system or loose your data, you should backup your data (or do a disk or partition image with Clone...

Re: Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation with Win 7

[quote="aes2011"]Looks like I goofed up a fair bit ... There's only the "boot" that was in MB. The rest were in GB. So that's one worry out of the way. I guess instead of posting the information as space-hogging pngs I could have piped the output to a text file but it's been quite a while since I wa...

For a start, and so that we can see what is actually going on in your system, can you please open a terminal window, enter the following commands and post the output here for us? sudo fdisk -l sudo parted -l And here's the parted one. I think the forum's spam filter has held up my post of the "part...

[Solved] Katya doesn't offer side-by-side installation?

Hi, My first post here. I'm not technical but I still want to try out Mint alongside Windows 7 Ultimate. My kit is a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with 2 GB RAM and a 250 GB hard disk divided as shown below in ntfs format according to the Windows 7 file manager. Drive C: 48.7 GB with 34.8 GB free. Drive...
