Well, I can sympathize, I've never been able to switch to Gnome - though Mint's version had me close to doing it. If you're not afraid of reinstalling when Boo has the KDE version ready, you still can install KDE on top of Cassandra in the meantime... That's what I did as I'm not very patient...

I have the impression that the "login as root" questions are coming regularly, why not put all details about why you shouldn't (and when it might be acceptable) in a nice sticky in the newbie forum?

Nick,

Thanks!
I'm indeed using Cassandra and your previous posts explain a lot - I'll try the fix when I'm home. :D

Hi, Have you tried to see what the plugin is called? I've seen a number of sites streaming Divx using a "divx plugin" (it's a .exe, so of course it's not gonna work in Linux). :( I haven't checked whether the mplayer option works in that case, but should you find a workaround this one, I'm...

Hi, did you check the NumLock was activated in your keyboard preferences? Right after upgrading to Cassandra, it was deactivated after each reboot, until I checked the option - if I remember well it was in KControl - there must be the same option in Gnome settings. That fixed it for me. I've no idea...

Well, I don't know for you, but I like having choices - ie to compare, test, try, discover and play with what's on my machine... and a CD is full quickly enough.

Hello,

It has been mentioned some time ago, but after a kernel or X server update, you'll always have to reinstall the Nvidia driver if you don't want any bad surprises.

At worse you'll need to reinstall it from the command line, though.

Hi, for that I'm using a Firefox extension called VideoDownloader, it enables you to download the .flv, which you can then read with VLC. I'm still looking for a .swf reader, though. Also, I stumbled upon a site which does the job for you, just paste the URL in it. Google for "Dailysuck".....
