Re: Mint stickers to cover windows

Bon jour, Clem!

I still haven't gotten my money back or my stickers. I filed on the 3rd of December, and escalated the claim on the 19th. Stefano's deadline with Paypal on this dispute is today. I'll gladly keep you updated throughout the day things happen :)

Re: 'Unusable' partition installing Mint 12 alongside Win7

In this particular case, GParted will be your best friend. You may need to reformat that "unusable" partition to ext4.

If you hadn't done the repartition earlier, you could've selected "Install alongside Windows". Would've been a LOT easier.

Re: Ok the Name (M) for Mint 13! Start here:

Is it mandatory to type the name with the large green font? Well, okay, I think the name Melissa will suit Linux Mint well. It's not only a female name, it's also a plant from the Mint family: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_%28plant%29 +1 I like this one, too. I have friends with th...

"So many people are ungrateful to be alive..." -Jigsaw Lol, that's a creepy profile pic man. To deviate from the topic at hand, I'm a MAJOR horror movie buff. The profile pic is from the climax of a Japanese film called Audition , and of course, my sig is from the first Saw film. Just be ...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

I have Mint 12 on my laptop, but for a while I was using Unity on that (I know... BLASPHEMY!!! ) - I also have numerous other desktops on it so I can learn them... eventually I'm going to switch to 12 LXDE when that comes out and install the Xfce interface on top of it because it just make...

Re: linux loses another user forever

It's often easy to forget that this distro was made by programmers and developers who've volunteered their time and effort since it is so well put together (yes, even 12... there, I said it). However, this is the extent of my playing Devil's Advocate in this case

Re: Gnome-3 Top panel- love or hate?

Why even bother about Gnome, Mate, etc? LXDE allows you to put the panel or panels almost anywhere you want - bottom, top, right, left middle, across multiple monitors, bottom or top center, etc. Hopefully they will allow a diagonal one across the screen in the next release if it isn't already ther...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

I always thought it meant someone who makes it a point to know every nook and cranny of an operating system, and has the knowledge to basically have it arranged so everything is in its place, like Tony Shalhoub's character in the TV show Monk . And if something goes awry, it's enough to completely u...

Re: Mint 12 KDE

I thank you too, because I've been wondering the same thing. I know my laptop doesn't seem to like KDE (graphical glitches on Mint 10 KDE), but I've got a nice graphics card on my desktop so I might experiment with it on that.

Re: Gnome-3 Top panel- love or hate?

Language can be colourful sometimes. We need to read between the lines... Linux is supposed to be flexible. With Unity and two-panels without inherent options, Linux takes away the lines. But there are other desktop environments to choose from. No one's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to...

I've found (accidentally) that the Advanced GNOME Settings also fine tune Unity's appearance.

Re: Gnome-3 Top panel- love or hate?

Doesn't matter to me at all. When I left Windows, I went to Ubuntu 9.10 (after its support ended... was all that would work on the laptop I had at the time that I knew about) and I actually thought the two panels were kinda nifty. In fact, when I moved over to Linux Mint 9 XFCE, I actually set it up...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

All I did when I installed Unity via Synaptic was make sure I agreed to the software dependencies. It might also be hardware issues on your part...? Maybe Unity 2D might do the trick for you...? There's also what wayne128 said - perhaps something you've installed is interfering with Unity...? A lot ...

Re: Is there any place that still sells desktops with Mint?

I know www.zareason.com has prebuilt computers that have Linux Mint pre-installed, and their prices are actually fairly reasonable. Anyone have any dealings with them?
