Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

I'm using a more straight GNOME shell right now with only a few of the Extensions (I still hate the straight-up GNOME Shell without them)... it's not so bad. Given the two, I'd still rather use Unity, though. Yes...it looks like between the ubuntu developers and the gnome 3 developers that the gnome...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

Nice...so you got Unity with Green instead of Orange  By the way, on Ubuntu, i use the light theme (i think it is called radiance) for a more mac-like look... Now that i got use to it, i find i can really "fly around" on it...makes me scratch my head when i read some of the co...

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

So I'm not the only heretic in the Mint camp after all  Seriously, Unity runs incredibly smoothly on Mint, as expected. My only problems so far have been compiz-related, and admittedly, the fact that I'm on an ATI card probably isn't helping. Unity itself runs marvelously. Not to mention t...

+1 to that one!

In all seriousness, I like the name "Mia". Short, sweet, simple.

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

you're ok imintnewb  too funny  Aethyr...that's been my observation about unity also...like it better then gnome 3 shell...though i suspect gnome 3 shell is improving with extensions... I also suspect unity will also get even better and more flexible as it evolves (after all, it..like gn...

Re: Mint stickers to cover windows

I had ordered my stickers back on October 24 of this year, and here it is in the beginning of December and I haven't seen anything either. I was willing to allow a little extra time, given that I'm in the US, but since folks in Europe also haven't seen their orders... Funny how he was really quick t...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

Other than the fact that Alien Arena won't run anymore (worked fine on this computer with previous incarnations of Mint; I address this here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=78949 ), I'm really liking Mint 12. I figure that GNOME 3 is the way of the future, whether we want it to...

Re: Games will not run

I'm resurrecting this old thread to bring up that Alien Arena will not run on Linux Mint 12. Runs fine with all the other incarnations of Linux Mint, just not 12.

Success :), I'm back in MATE and it's running. Looks homely as sin, but it runs.

Thanks!

Re: Switching Themes in MATE

It already does. What were the original values for "gtk_theme" and "icon_theme"? Those were the things that I had changed.

Switching Themes in MATE

I've done a search for this, but since this is a new DE, I'm not surprised no one has posted it. I recently installed Linux Mint 12 into a separate partition and have been goofing around with MATE, trying to get it at least visually to what I'm used to. All was hunky-dory, until I tried to change th...

Re: install linux mint LMDE

as i know, linux mint debian(LMDE) is "rolling realize". this caused to be less stable. so, is there any lmde version that is not "rolling realize"? There is a tutorial in the community pages describing the process of switching the repositories to 'stable'. FINAL UPDATE: I'm ple...

Re: install linux mint LMDE

After I posted that, I re-read it and realized that I may have answered my own question as far as what to do, namely by installing the GRUB bootloader onto the Ubuntu partition, that way the same bootloader will lead to all three of the installed OS's. I'm going to reboot after I post this and share...

Re: install linux mint LMDE

This is to sort of piggyback on the original post. I too have been trying to install LMDE numerous times and have failed each time (specifically the Xfce version), so any information I can get would be most welcome. On my laptop I have Windows XP (for my games... Wine's given me too many hangovers) ...

Naw. The picture is from memebase.com.

Besides, my cat (who's with my ex-wife) is a Himalayan/Persian mix, and perhaps the most awesome cat around.
And yes, I'm biased.

(For Cheezburger fans) Hipster Kitty uses Linux

Hey all, just something silly I threw together, based on my true story (never owned an Apple, but I got my laptop from a pawn shop, on which I immediately installed Linux Mint). Comments and critiques welcome. http://cheezburger.com/View/5149820672 http://images.cheezburger.com/completestore/2011/8/...

Re: Start the name Suggestions for Mint 12

I'm gonna add a vote for Lydia. First off, I dated a girl named Lydia, plus it reminds me of Winona Ryder's character in 'Beetlejuice'. I noticed a few votes for 'Lucy' or 'Lucille'... going along with the Linux Mint naming theme, change it to 'Lucia'! I'm gonna put in another suggestion for 'Lucret...
