Re: Iphone 3gs

I know it sucks.

If you don't want to give them dual boot systems have you considered running windows in a virtual machine using virtual-box?

That way they would run windows (and iTunes) as a program only when needed.

Are you familiar with Virtual-box?

Re: Linux Mint 10 on Mac Mini

I'm using Katya but you should have a somewhat similar setup on Julia. Hit "Menu" then "Administration" then "Start-up Manager". If not scroll through "all" until you find the start up manager. Check and see how long delays are set for. That may be part of your problem. Hope this helps. BTW-Welcome ...

Re: Questions about Defragging or Antivirus? Look here first

I seem to remember a recent instance of android apps from the android store having some sort of malware or virus in them. Personally my Linux box is on a large home network with 4 other OS's (OSX, Win 7, Vista, XP) so I think it in my best interest to have and use Clamtk regularly. I suppose if some...

Re: Iphone 3gs

In my limited experience with mint 11 I can find no way to do apple software updates on mint. It seems only iTunes through windows or OSX can do that. I have found a way to manage the music libraries on iPod and iPhone (3g) on mint using banshee. Personally, I'll keep my mac-book for syncing the iPh...

Re: Clam AV Not updating

That worked! Thank you so much. I've had several other technical issues while trying to figure out this OS. Now that anti-virus is checked off the list, I can move on to the driver issues I'm having with my GeForce 6150SE nforce 430! If I see "checking battery state" locked up one more time on start...

Re: Clam AV Not updating

Thank you Vincent you are very helpful. I appreciate it. I was able to get that straightened out through a re-installation. Now clamtk says my antivirus engine 0.97 is outdated. Would you happen to know how I can upgrade to 0.97.2 using the command line in terminal? Thanks again for all your help. I...

Re: Clam AV Not updating

Thank you for the quick reply.

When I type "sudo freshclam" in terminal I get the following message:

"WARNING: You must specify at least one database mirror in /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf"

Thanks for being patient with a linux noob :?

Re: Dvd upgrade LinuxMint 11 -- LibreOffice was installed by

TK65, (White Zombie fan I suppose?) I could be wrong but your system may be upgrading libreoffice. Dial-up with any of these is going to take a while. When I initially installed from the most recent dvd there were a ton of upgrades at first. I hope you have an unlimited plan. Perhaps an overnite dow...

Re: Clam AV Not updating

OK, now I'm having a bit of an issue.

My virus definitions will not seem to update.

Screenshot will not post but "Antivirus Definitions" says "Outdated".

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Games will not run

Whats my Name,

This worked for me. I hope it works for you.

Open terminal and type:

sudo apt-get upgrade

It will ask for your password. Key it in and hit enter.

When it is complete, reboot mint. That's what I did with success. 8)

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" released!

I've been using Katya for a couple of weeks on an old e machine el1300 that had been rendered POS-NFG by XP. I love it. Have noticed a few bugs so far but I don't know how much of it is hardware related (did many of the same things on xp but became unusable). Very happy for this forum as well. I've ...

Re: Iphone 3gs

I'm new to mint and have been playing around a bit with Banshee. I've managed to make it recognize my iphone 3G. It looks as if I can start using it to sync my music and photos as well. My question is about the occasional iphone software update from apple. Can that be done over Banshee as well or sh...

Re: Clam AV Not updating

hemimaniac wrote:first off for some reason, the regular buntu ppa is very slow getting updates for clam, i would suggest the following

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-clamav/ppa

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

restart and clamtk should continue as normal
That did the trick for me!

Thanks Hemi!
