I can say that I've never seen an "unsafe" update via Ubuntu or encountered an issue generated by an update. But then again, I've only been using Ubuntu for 8 or 9 years now.

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

I bounce between Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Mint 17.1 on an inexpensive Dell laptop. It's a Inspiron 15 (model 3542). Everything just works with both distributions. I've got the Windows 8.1 hard drive stuck away in the box and maybe some day I'll try it out. My earlier reply to this question is above, bu...

Re: Bluetooth Won't Work

Andrew, Greetings from Westerville! I'm afraid I'm not going to be any real help for you because I encountered the same non-working Bluetooth that you have in both LM Mate and Ubuntu Mate. Worked on both for a couple of days ... unsucessfully. However in both LM Cinnamon and Ubuntu Unity, Bluetooth ...

Re: [Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason

I keep windows 8 for my tax season only. Have a spare drive that I switch to for about 4 weeks. I will boot it up several time during the year to allow it to update. The rest of the time. it's linux.

Re: Other Linux distros

In my attempt to save an old laptop, I started with Fedora quite a few years back. Ended up with Ubuntu 7.04 IIRC. As I upgraded systems, I kept coming back to Ubuntu and my current desktop system is running Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. No issues at all. My most recent purchase was a Dell Insperion laptop, a...

Re: My only Linux Mint 17.1 Issue

I think it's a bug in or related to Nemo. If you use df or parted etc., you'll probably find that the size is reported correctly. Yes, it appears to just be an issue for Nemo. Again, if this is the only issue I have to put up with then I'm good to go. The file count is also overstated by about 40%....

My only Linux Mint 17.1 Issue

And it's really not anything too serious. I just can not figure out how a 120Gb drive can be reported as 140.8Tb.

Re: [JeremyB Solved] Wi-Fi doesn't work properly with Blueto

Interesting read for me here. I picked up the same laptop in mid-December and Bluetooth & Wi-Fi has been flawless from the initial install of LM 17.1 Cinnamon (64 bit). I've yet to come across any issues with this particular laptop and either Mint or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It just works.

Two Thumbs Up - Dell Inspiron 15 Mdl 3542 Picked up this laptop back in mid-December as an addition for use in the basement. Removed the 500GB hard drive and replaced with one I had on hand. Re: Issues Streaming Network Video

Not sure this will assist, but I just received a notification from Ubuntu that Chrome 37 will support Netflix streaming video. I will not be able to check this out with Mint for a couple of days, so maybe someone else will chime in before that.

Re: Is there a problem free wireless card for LM 16?

Is it me, or are nearly half the threads in the Networking Forum dealing with stubborn Broadcom devices? :? When it comes to support for 802.11n, it's appears to me that it's not just a Broadcom issue but involves 802.11n Linux support overall. Linux appears not to be ready for the higher speeds th...

Is there a problem free wireless card for LM 16?

I've swapped at least three different wireless cards out of my system since they will not function reliably, with the latest being based on the RTL8188CE. :( I'm curious: is there a wireless card that is supported out of the box (802.11n) in Mint 16? I would rather switch than fight any more. -- Mike

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

I've been running Ubuntu since 7.04 and had stayed with 12.04 LTS version since it was released. Did not particually care for anything after that, so I stayed with it. All the while, I would try out the new releases of Ubuntu, Mint, Debian and OpenSUSE just for grins. That usually lasted for about a...
