Re: I give up

I'm new to Linux and have never used OS-X or Photoshop. I have to agree that documentation for Linux can be lacking / confusing and I miss certain little (free) image editors available in WIndows. However, I think each OS has it's strengths and weaknesses, at one time (maybe still) the Mac OS was be...

Not sure this will help, but you're not the only one experiencing this, see the posts on the Firefox support forums:

Re: Anybody used Zorin?

I tried Zorin about 3-4 years back when I was looking for a Windows alternative. It wasn't especially well known at the time but was starting to get good reviews. Pretty much my first Linux experience and I was wowed. At the time their support forums were pretty much non-existent so I tried to conta...

Re: Linux and Android

Thanks for asking the question, The Catalyst, as I was also wondering that, especially after reading this article on the BBC: 'Sophisticated' Android malware hits phones . Leaving aside the distinction between viruses and malware (OK, a virus is just one type of malicious software), and whether most...

How to Replace Windows XP with Linux: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-replace-windows-xp-linux-free.htm That's a very detailed guide but it might make the process appear to be difficult. It's not. Just be aware that installing Mint on your HDD will wipe off Windows unless you dual-boot....

Re: Releasing Free CD's on events

Similar idea crossed my mind, but a different angle. I was wondering about offering the local charity shop some free Mint DVDs. Blanks are cheap enough to buy, people who frequent charity shops might/might not appreciate a free OS, charity *might* make a little extra cash (or, er, maybe I should jus...

Re: How do you promote Mint?

As EOL approached I mentioned Linux / Linux Mint to several XP users I know, including several who moan about Windows (mostly to excuse their own PC ineptitude). The response was underwhelming. Some would continue to use XP, some would buy a new PC, some a new tablet. Whatever, it's their choice and...

Re: Removing Linux Mint (uh... sorry)

Probably not many here would have experience of doing this and it's not something I'd comtemplate myself. As far as I know, it should just be a matter of inserting the Windows DVD and following the default options. Could I suggest checking the BIOS and making sure the PC is set to boot from DVD befo...

Re: Newbie: A bit lost at sea for the moment

Welcome http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_wink_gruen.gif To be fair, XP was about thirteen years old and MS gave some three years notice (at least) of end of life! You can make XP quite secure but, if you don't already know how to do that then, IMO, you'd be better off learning Linu...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

"What made you switch to Linux Mint?" Money, or lack of. Quite happy using XP, no stability of security problems and it (still) does what I want to do on a PC. Got tired of all the media hype for the latest and greatest (ROFL) versions of Windows. According to the experts, XP EOL meant it was going ...

Re: Linux Mint Editions –Testing for an Average User

Question that begs asking, who do you consider an average user? Going by those tests I must be less than an average user, and my missus less so again. I put Linux Mint on her Windows PC, it worked fine 'out of the box' (though this wasn't the latest version). Not a Linux fanboy and don't have anyth...

Re: Open University course/Linux

Hey, busby, thanks for the reply.

I've completed an OU course in the past and didn't find it as thrilling as the brochure description describes and, as you say, figuring out the questions isn't always easy itself.

Good to hear you made it through and find it useful, I'm still tempted.
