WIFI not working

Just installed Mint 11 LXDE on my mom's HP Pavilion dv1411se. Tried using NDISGTK, but when I click "install new driver",it asks where it is. I have no clue what to do. WIFI worked under XP so I know the hardware is fine. Mintwifi yields the following: ------------------------- * I. scanning WIFI PC...

etc, but instead of just taking space from the existing partition, it deleted the whole partitio Ouch!! try 1. boot with live-usb, run gparted, click the 'lost partition' click check, hopefully it can repair the 'lost partition'.. 2. if above does not work, another way is to use testdisk google it ...

Install from flash drive

How can I install Mint from a USB flash drive? I have installed Mint numerous times via CD but never with a thumb drive. I have heard of people doing it and it seemed to be a way to avoid burning so many DVD's to try the different versions of Mint. Can someone give me a step by step?

The New Software Module

http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=1294 I saw the article on the new software module and saw a link to the community site - first time I go to it. I always use the "Software Manager" to install software and if it isn't there, then I use Synaptic. Will this website integrate into the software manager....

Re: Task bar messed up and then gone

It's KDE. I want it back exactly as it was at install. I am not sure I know all the names of components of the task bar. Is there a restore feature on the install CD? KDE is even newer to me than Linux is which is also new to me (compared to Wintel). I need either a one click restore or step by step...

Re: 32-bit or 64-bit KDE first?

I am not going to vote because it is up to the community but I think the 32 bit should be developed first. The 32 bit version will work on a wider range of computers and it has a pae enabled kernel. Don't misunderstand me, I have switched to 64 bit myself and I like it. I am just thinking about tho...

Re: Installing Plasmoids with CMAKE

Installed build-essential and tried again. No dice. Is there a program that can take one of these tars and automatically do all the unpacking, compiling, and installing from a gui? daddy@daddy-desktop ~/.Plasmoids/yawp-0.3.2 $ /home/daddy/.Plasmoids/yawp-0.3.2/install.sh DEBUG: UNITTESTS: -- The C c...

No. I figured when I installed cmake that all that it required function would be installed with it. I will install it now and try again. Thanks.

Installing Plasmoids with CMAKE

I downloaded a plasmoid for KDE. Unfortunately there is no way to automatically install it. I followed the directions: INSTALL NOTES tar -jxf yawp* cd yawp* ./install.sh First I got this message: daddy@daddy-desktop ~/.Plasmoids/yawp-0.3.2 $ ./install.sh DEBUG: UNITTESTS: ./install.sh: line 109: cma...

Re: Gimp Plugins

Thanks. I will try it soon on something and hit this thread after to report on my success or failure. Thanks for the advice. There was not a link at the end of your post. You had said here's a link, but then I couldn't find a link. Thanks again for the down and dirty guide.

Re: Gimp Plugins

Thanks it worked.

I am wondering if there is a guide to compiling / installing somewhere for beginners for doing it yourself for those times that you can't get it through the repos?

Gimp Plugins

I want to install a gimp plugin. I was hoping there would be a simple/newbie way to do it but there is not. I bolded the only instructions I found. I have no idea what makefile is, I have never ever compiled anything, and I do want this plugin. Is there anyone who knows how to do this, who can expla...

Re: Gimp

Thank you so much. You'ld think as heavily developed as Gimp is, that by now someone would have suggested a 'restore defaults' button. Your solution was quick and painless though. Thanks again! 8)

Gimp

Somehow, the default layout for ht tools in gimp is gone. I can't find a button anywhere to restore all defaults. Is there one. I tried to uninstall and re-install, but it came back exactly as I left it. I tried going into synaptic and using complete removal which should erase the configuation files...
