Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

Hello, is there a way to get Compiz 0.8.8 to work under Mint 14 Mate? Compiz 0.9 in Mint 14 is unity optimized and quite dysfunctional and incomplete in many aspects ( e.G. panel thumbnails broken, window animations broken, seems this is not needed/wanted by unity)), but the compiz 0.8.8 packages ha...

Re: Mint 14 MATE/Compiz Theming Problem Fix

Just ran into this problem, but solved the same way. I hope some day MATE will have its own stable Compiz fork to avoid these problems. Actually there already is a compiz fork http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=869 . Unfortunately it does not work with the Ubuntu 12.10 base of Mint...

Mint 14 MATE/Compiz Theming Problem Fix

Hi. After installing Mint14 MATE with Compiz, I ran into a nasty Issue with theming window borders. After some fiddling around, I found the solution to this. Even though Compiz is assigned as window manager ( don't forget to activate teh CCSM setting 'Decoration', or you'll end up with no window dec...

Can someone explain to me why Cinnamon has been developped?

Looking at Cinnamon in comparison to my Gnome 3 Fallback desktop, I wonder why Cinnamon has been developped. It offers some kind of Gnome 2 Look and feel based on a forked Gnome Shell and a forked Metacity. Gnome 3 Fallback works so much smother, offers much more configurability and can even be used...

Re: Mint 13 Abandoning Gnome3-Shell?

I see, I guess I will have to either learn to love Cinnamon (which is great btw) or install gnome3 pure and simple, so that it will exist as it does today. I'm running one MSGE extension otherwise it is pure gnome3. Define 'Pure Gnome 3` please, do you mean Gnome 3 Shell or Gnome 3 Classic/Fallback...

Re: Cinnamon forgot Compiz

Well, for Gnome 3.4, Gnome Panel is still around, and before Gnome 3.6 comes to Debian, there's enough time for some apt-pinning. Besides that, Cinnamon is a fork, right? So who cares about Gnome 3.4, .5 or .6 when it's a fork anyway? And when the Gnome devs drop Gnome Panel, then they prove to be l...

Re: Cinnamon forgot Compiz

Get Gnome 3 Classic, ( Gnome-FAllback_Session) get Compiz, get ccsm, get fusion-icon to switch to compiz and put fusion-icon into your startup applications, . Then enjoy the good old look and feel of G2 under G3 without mutter and Gnome-Shell in the background. This is how Cinnamon should work, I do...

Re: What makes Mint look bad

This is the kinda of stuff that makes Mint look bad. http://hajimu.org/?p=2734 This is such a hack job and it isn't mint 12 or I sure hope not. That's Gnome 3, what do you expect from a broken, experimental Tablet User Interface with ridiculoulsly bad usability that's requires excessive work to mak...

what we saw in that video "is not" the real lisa, at least the look&feel is miles away from the point where the development is atm. Re: Mint 12 with Kernel & Gnome 3!

One extension that I hope Mint 12 ships with by default is the Power Off button in the drop down 'menu' (top right corner) in GNOME-Shell. Otherwise, it is not readily intuitive how to shut down. Regarding extensions, I fervently hope that they do not affect the stability of GNOME shell. The ones* ...

Re: Mint 12 with Kernel & Gnome 3!

Funny how people are cutting up Gnome 3. I've been in information technology for 16+ years. I've used everything from DOS to Win7 along with many window managers for Linux and Gnome 3 has been the most productive environment for me. I initially was a hater, trying it out here and there. Then I deci...

Re: Mint11: laggy & slow, stuff doesn't open or change insta

Compiz per se is not a problem, but Compiz 0.9 which is used in Mint 11 is very buggy, cause it was not really tested and needed to be heavily modified to support the awful Unity stuff in Ubuntu 11.04.

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

Well, I did not enable any additional repos, used teh ones that were enabled by default and after the first actualisation, the OS was dysfunctional. Speaking of dysfunctional systems, made another Ubuntu 11.10 installation today, put on Gnome 3 and now the only GUI that works is Unity 2d, Unity 3d w...

The "dependency hells" is a myth, if you don't do anything with your distro of course, and it exists in the deb world too.
A myth? My Cent OS 6.0 destroyed itself when making the first actualisation afer I installed it....

Re: On screen keyboard in Mint 12?

I had to invent reasons why an on-screen keyboard would be easy. You are basically saying that nobody needs it. When that was the case, this topic wouldn't have been started. Well, what I was trying to say is this : Why would someone use a virtual keyboard that uses up lots of screen space on a mac...
