Re: Install firefox7

The easiest way, to upgrade your install of Firefox, to the current 7.0 'stable' release ... is to go to the Launchpad.net site and add the Mozilla/Firefox repros to your sources.list . https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/firefox-stable < Firefox 7.0 'stable' release repros found here. To a...

i'm amazed at how awesome linux mint 9 is

random thought, i just thought its amazing how awesome and light mint 9 is, i mean enabling cool and quiet, then enabling the cpu frequency scaling monitor and choosing the on demand setting, the pc spends 90% of the time with it clocked down to 800MHZ/core. even when watching 720p60 h264,...

Re: a lot of cpu usage with firefox idling

Posting out of boredom to agree with what Albert says. Meant to amend my post above about poss hazards of doing apt-get update/upgrade if you have a bunch of odd ball repos or ppa's added to sources.list. Didn't feel like typing out a bk. Just adding things and pulling in packages from here/there/e...

Re: a lot of cpu usage with firefox idling

the last ubuntu-based mint i used was exactly mint9 (more than 1 year ago - then LMDE came out and i never looked back), and i also was all the time adding ppa's to keep the system as upto date as i could (and ubuntu-tweak is amazing for that), but there's a risk in doing that: some of the app you ...

Re: a lot of cpu usage with firefox idling

may not be a weird week as you say, latest is not always better (and i know that pretty well because i don't have any stable OS or apps installed - it's always the latest i can get), but also in this particular case you can have an issue either with flash or with fact that you are running a very up...

Re: a lot of cpu usage with firefox idling

the issue you talk about now (FF not wanting to close) i can't replicate at least not in a permanent pattern, but the bad memory management is something you can easily see: -open system monitor and leave it in the processes tab, now open FF (let's say with 1 tab) and check the memory, start opening...

Re: a lot of cpu usage with firefox idling

i know you guys do not support it when one gets applications from places other than the mint repos AFAIK this is not true, but if you have this experience please share with us now your "problem": showing its status as "uninterruptable" showing it using 44% of the cpu its fine when left running for ...

AlbertP wrote:The Mint 11 repository gets new Firefox versions within a few weeks. A good 7.0 version is already in the repo, and you can get rid of the PPA with ppa-purge.
thanks, can you post the link to the mint 11 repos so i can add it to mint 9?

seems fairly straight forward, copy/paste the partition from one drive to another, expand the partition, make a small swap partition, install grub, done

am i right?

Ortek MCK 800 media keys

ok mint 9 gnome x64, i have a Ortek MCK 800 keyboard, i am wondering if there is a way to get the multimedia keys to work in mint, out of the box the volume buttons work but it does not seem to recognize the other ones. Not a huge issue, but i use the pc mainly for video playback so having the keys ...
