Re: need help please, system freezing at logon screen

update: well incase no one is able to help me, i am backing up my home folder to another hdd, preparing to format and start over. Will do it smarter this time and just give mint 9 a 20GB partition, make a 1GB swap (have 4GB ram) and the other 479GB will be a /home partition. but 375GB of data, its e...

Re: == Mint on USB == Live -vs- Full Install

With respect to Ease of Backup / Cloning. I guess the best choice would be the Full Install because: 1 – There would not be a large casper-RW that could be mostly zeros. 2 – No separate partition to back up if you did the casper-RW that way. 3 – Ability to remove unwanted apps that would just take ...

Re: need help please, system freezing at logon screen

update:

ok by choosing recovery mode from grub, then telling it to boot normally it will allow me to type in my user-name and password to give me access to the system using the shell. gives me a better shot at fixing it with some help from you all.

mint9 main 32bit+3.0.0-12 kernel

Not really a question, just thought someone would find it interesting that i am successfully running mint 9 main 32bit with the 3.0.0-12 kernel on my Acer AOA150 netbook. no problems so far, will report back if i find anything. However i am not brave enough to attempt a kernel upgrade on my pc ...

Re: mint 9 and Nouveau

You cannot use any effects with seperate X screens. You need TwinView or Nouveau when you use multiple monitors and want to use effects or 3D. ok so either way i go about it i have to choose between effects or no video tearing. considering the main thing i use the pc for is downloading and watching...

Re: Mint on USB == Live -vs- Full Install

one downside i have found to running live with persistance is that not all updates can be successfully installed. Yes, I'm guessing the Full Install is going to be the clear best choice for updating. Thanks glad i could finally give back  yeah most of them would install fine, there were just m...

Re: mint 9 and Nouveau

i think i will just use the proprietary driver for now and wait for the combination of the release of mint 13, and mint 9 reaching end of life before i change operating systems. looks like i can't run the effects anyway. I run seperate x screens, when i enable the effects everything goes crazy on th...

Re: Mint on USB == Live -vs- Full Install

This is not really an answer to your question, just something i felt i could contribute. When using casper-rw are you using the file that is created by a usb creator? There is an alternative if you want to have persistance with a live usb, you can actually make a casper-rw partition, if setup correc...

Re: Help me understand a little about updating Nvidia driver

There is another alternative to the virtual terminal login if you can't get one (although for me this never works??). Me either. kevin@Serenity ~ $ sudo service gdm3 stop [sudo] password for kevin: gdm3: unrecognized service I explored the software manager as suggested and also verified this in Add...
