Same login problems here plus e-mail (pop) would not download via Evolution.

Rebooted, ran Envy and everything seems to be back to normal.

I do not use Beryl though.

I assume you are using nautilus for the file operation. If that is the case open a terminal and type

This will give you super user privileges to drag and drop the files where you want them.
