Re: Import File to Librecalc under Mint14

can you copy other files from USB? Can you directly edit any file by opening from USB. Sometimes USB is copy-paste protected. Excel files generally open in calc, since there is no other spreadsheet program, hitting enter on xlsx file will open it in calc. Not sure about preferences. I do not know ab...

Re: no taskbar on VB?

This might be a screen resolution problem. I had this when I installed Bodhi Linux Change screen resolution from wide screen to normal or vice versa in VB. Installing extension pack will also help you to get more resolution options. I think Mint already has guest edition (now called as extension pac...

Re: What browser do you recommend

Normally i like firefox but it seems in Linux Mint it has some issues eg flv videos not playing properly etc. Google chrome i am not very keen on because of the absence of a menubar at top showing back, forward, history, bookmarks etc. Or is there a way of having the menu bar permanently there. Wha...

Re: Installation icon is not there

By meaning media check means to check Md5Sum. you can also create a bootable USB and install the system. It works faster than DVD. I think it must be a bad burn. Try burning at slower speed (4x) if you are going for DVD. I pressed buttons at the 10 second countdown thing and nothing happened. Now t...

Re: dual-boot Maya & Mint KDE

If I boot from DVD -- Once I get it set up that way, I can make copies of the DVD and keep them. WHEN (not if) the multi-boot fails (I have used grub in the past), I can use one of the copies to make it work again. At least, I hope that's how it will work. So what's wrong with that? mm So you want ...

This is the first time I have used Linux. I downloaded Linux Mint 14.1 mate version and booted it from a disk. I am now running the operating system through the disk but no installation icon appeared like it's apparently supposed to. The default linux mint background appeared and I have the menu ba...

Re: dual-boot Maya & Mint KDE

you can also install both versions on same HDD with a common /home folder. SWAP will be automatically detected. GRUB Boot loader will detect all Linux distros and even Win XP/7, so you can boot into anyone you like.

Re: How to upgrade from Linux Mint 13 to 14 Nadia

I like Linux a lot. So I can do clean install also. But just think how much time it would take for me to install Linux and Windows 7 again. What I meant was it would be a great advantage for Linux users if we could just update with out loosing any data and I am sure Linux Developers can do it. Rele...

Re: Mint 14 xfce the worst ever release

I will install Dolphin, but if I like it, then it is likely I will go with KDE for my desktop. I think a good scenario would be KDE for desktop, Xfce for htpc, and Xfce for my old laptop. Actually, it works very well with xfce, especially if you turn on the kde services in the sessions/startup sett...

Re: Cant log in

Try to login to the 2D version of cinnamon. You can change that by clicking on session in MDM, Sounds like a graphic card issue to me. Cinnamon works well with latest computers, as it is depending upon gnome3, which in turn is developed for new technology precisely touch screen So if you have old p...

You need you to change default app for opening file to nautilus.

can you open nautilus or simply file manager? you can select open with option or change / add preferred application.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to download either MATE or XFCE (both would be MINT 13). She has little experience with any computers, but all of the experience she does have was Win. ...

Re: Issues with menu on install

Yes, it is Cinnamon. 32 bit. It does not have a dedicated graphics card. It is probably 8 or so years old. They both have pentium 4 processors. it has 2GB of ram. I have not tried installing any other editions yet. Cinnamon requires 3D acceleration and this may cause problems. For new comers MATE o...
