Remove shortcuts from titlebar
I accidentally dragged a couple of programs to my title bar, and can not work out how to get rid of them - I did not want them there, but there is no 'delete' option when I right click on them. I am using the un-enhanced gnome desktop under Mint12 - the one with Applications and Places at top left S...

Re: <SOLVED> Run program as a different user
Thanks
gksu did what I wanted
I did not want to add user to sudoers file (old windows habits die hard, and I like to keep the users with admin privileges to a minimum)

<SOLVED> Run program as a different user
Is there a linux equivalent of the windows "Run as.." option to allow you to run a program with the credentials of a different user without actually switching users I do not mean run as sudo, but rather run program xyz as user A but logged in as user B. I have a few programs with different...

Re: Mint10 crashed during update and will not mount filesyst
although on the same drive, they were kept separated, with their own home partition, root partition and swap area. I worked round the problem, by copying the contents of the Mint10 Home partition which I could still read to an external drive, and re-installed Mint10 and then copied the Home folder b...

Re: Mint12 upgrade removes all menus[closed, not solved]
As I said,
I reinstalled, and switched to using MATE. It reduced the functionality, but it did make it usable - it is a trade-off.

Re: Mint12 upgrade removes all menus[closed, not solved]
Yes, cd passed checks.
My issue appears to be related to an incompatability issue between my nvidia graphics card and the default gnome3 install.
But I do miss the 'minimise all windows' function of previous versions

Re: Mint12 upgrade removes all menus
I re-installed Mint12, downloaded MATE and switched to that.
It was 'usable' but now lacks some of the functionality of previous versions.

Mint10 crash during update will not mount filesystem SOLVED
I was running the recommended updates under Mint 10 when my system crashed - was totally locked for 14 hours. When I rebooted, I ran the recovery mode and then normal boot. It booted fine, but still showed recommended updates. I ran the recommended updates and was warned that I needed to run dpkg --...

Re: What are the diffrences between the CD and DVD versions?
Thanks for that :) Looks like the software packages have changed slightly since then F-Spot is no longer included OpenOffice has been replaced by LibreOffice Neither of which I would expect to interfere with Flash in other applications additional wallpapers, which should also have no impact Which ju...

Re: What are the diffrences between the CD and DVD versions?
Hmmmmm The Unity Desktop is Not part of a Linux Mint Install :?: when my copy of linuxmint-12-gnome-cd-nocodecs-32bit.iso with MD5 id of 40562d26447207cb5111f94b93957a58 comes with a desktop manager, complete with top and bottom menu bars, unity icon, and acts exactly like unity on Ubuntu 11.10, the...

What are the diffrences between the CD and DVD versions?
I had an early copy of Mint12 installed on my system, and installed using the CD version. I had downloaded the multimedia codecs, but due to space constraints could not upgrade to the DVD version. The installation worked fine, and was stable - I could play flash games, view videos, etc. I repartitio...

Mint12 upgrade removes all menus[closed, not solved]
I am sure this is a really really simple solution, but I can't figure it out :) I crashed my grub installation (error 21) so I reinstalled Mint 12. when it booted up the first time, the 'menu' (top and bottom bars) items were all not displaying properly, the text was all garbled and/or missing. I do...

Re: missing menu and panels in Mint 12
I am currently using Mint10 LXDE
but this is in part due to my hardware configuration, and a stubborn hardware problem that has started generating kernel panics under Mint12.
When I can resolve that issue, I may re-explore the issues of the graphics adapter / card / driver and Mint 12

Re: error message on software installation [part solved]
Judging by the facts that a) it does it for EVERY package b) running Mint 12 on a different drive on same machine has no issues c) it runs faster under Mint 12 d) other reported issues I have come to conclusion that Linux is having issues with the drive and generating spurious errors as it gets tang...

Re: Mint on treacle or failed installation?
I am diagnosing this as a Linux vs drive problem. Windows has no issues with the drive Linux can not cope with a perceived error on the drive and crawls along I installed Mint 12 into a 8 GB partition on a smaller drive, and it flies along UNTIL it attempts to read the larger drive, and then it drop...

how to safely move files to create space? [SOLVED]
I installed Mint 12 (CD version) into a small partition (8GB) and it is complaining that I have only 71MB free space left in the root partition. I can use the home partition to relocate some of the files, but how do I a) tell which files can be moved safely b) move them safely c) tell linux where th...

Re: missing menu and panels in Mint 12
It does appear to be related to graphics card. I installed Mint 12 with a Radeon 3650 card with 1GB memory installed. I had the 'new' look, complete with top and bottom bars and infinity icon. I swapped my graphics card back to my older card (GeForce FX5200 with 128mb memory) for testing purposes wi...

Re: system freeze on load
So If I understand correctly.. I use the live CD I installed from to load the live version into the memory, then I use the live cd to read the hard drive (is the root in this case going to be the live cd root or the original hard drive root? - if the live CD root, how to I find the password?) I can ...
