Re: Focus stealing

I have this problem too but I don't quite understand what I can do to fix it. The Github page is too confusing for me.

Re: Fan always on and runs very warm (Maya)

From what I can tell, Cinnamon is using a lot of CPU power. It's usually near the top of the system monitor, sometimes even at the very top!

Re: Fan always on and runs very warm (Maya)

I noticed my fans are spinning a lot more in Mint 13 Cinnamon than they used to in Mint 11.

[Solved] Mint 13 Cinnamon using wrong sound output device

My graphics card has its own HDMI output device for sound and for some reason Mint insists on using that. When I go to the Pulseaudio volume control I see that it is set as fallback device. I can set my regular 'built in audio' as fallback and then the sound works fine. But when I restart, it just d...

ATI fglrx graphics driver crashes on shutdown (Mint 13 Cinn)

I'm using the fglrx driver and every time I shut down my computer the driver crashes with an 'oops' message. It's not terribly debilitating because it crashes while I'm shutting down anyway but still not really nice. This didn't happen on Mint 11. Does anyone know why this happens?

Nautilus won't use my folder view settings

I set Nautilus to use compact view by default and set the default zoom level to 66%. But whenever I browse to a new folder, it defaults to compact view in 100% zoom instead. 'Reset view to default' doesn't do anything. I can change the zoom manually, and then it remembers, but I don't want to keep d...

Mint 13 won't change language

I'm using Mint 13 Cinnamon and trying to change the language from the default US English to UK English. I go into the language support window and drag English (United Kingdom) to the top, then click 'apply system-wide' and then close. But the next time I log in, it's just set to English (United Stat...

Automatically select user on login?

In Mint 11 when my computer asked me to log in, the sequence was just... press enter to select the user that was already highlighted (me) and then type the password. In Mint 13, I have to type in the user name as well. Is there a way to get the old behaviour back?

I've already downloaded it but I'm waiting for the final announcement before installing. That will save me some time downloading if it ends up being the final version.

Re: Is it possible to write a kernel to make a single core..

A processor with multiple cores is more than just a 'layer' on top. There are actually several distinct processors built onto one chip. That's not something you can virtualise, because hardware that isn't there just isn't there. But I think you're confusing multiprocessing with multitasking. Linux h...

Re: Sizzling sound coming from PSU

1) The one I am using is still fairly new, so I don't think that's really an issue but I can always try. 2) The highest allowed rating here is 16 A so I think it's that. 3) None of the sockets in this house have any grounding except in the kitchen, and that's fairly normal for older houses. I think ...

Re: Sizzling sound coming from PSU

I've never seen the lights flicker except that one time while the sound was there. Our power has always been very stable so I don't think it's that. I tried to make a video recording of it this morning when I turned my computer on, but of course nothing happened. Mint did stop booting half-way throu...

Re: Sizzling sound coming from PSU

The new PSU came with a replacement cable so I am using that now. Maybe the sound is coming from the contacts there but to me it seems that it is firmly plugged in. I'll try your suggestion though, I'll try unplugging the graphics and see if anything happens then.

Re: Sizzling sound coming from PSU

What's confusing me right now is that this sound has now come from both the old and the new supply. The sizzling sound does seem like AC arcing... like regular sparking at 50 Hz (but I am not an electrician, I just watch videos!). So it seems that something is shorting out, but I have no idea why th...

Sizzling sound coming from PSU

For a while now I've been having random freezes at times while using my computer (Linux Mint 11). I wasn't sure why but I suspected the power supply. More recently I would occasionally hear a kind of sizzling or arcing sound come from the PSU when I turn on the computer, but only the first time I tu...

ufw runs even when the GUI application is not running. The GUI is actually g ufw... the underlying part is a text mode program. Try typing this in a terminal to see if the firewall is running: sudo ufw status You could also type this to see all firewall rules currently defined in the kernel: sudo ip...
