Re: How To Run WIth Laptop Closed?
Go to "System Settings", then "Power" (you might need to click (switch to advanced mode in order to see the "Power" tab) and Select: "When the lid is closed", and turn it to "Do nothing". That should be it.

Re: Installing Skype
You can easlily do this in two ways: first, you can open up a terminal and type: sudo apt-get install skype However, since you directly downloaded the Binary from Skype's website, you most likely have dependency errors and that command won't work. My suggestion would be to first try to type: sudo ap...

AIX: IBM's abomition which I got lumbered with in one job. HP-UX: HP and ditto Some mainframe *nix* where the companies have gon...

Re: Can I use the applications backup to do this?
Theoretically speaking, it would work. However, if you have extra apps on your old LM12 install that are not needed (for instance, the Mate desktop), it would install them on LM13 as well. While you can use the Backup tool to do this, my advice would be to check twice your selection and make sure yo...

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam
I have a certain workarround, although it isn't precisely a solution. I was also having this problem, both the delay and the automatic screenshot saving (which I DEEPLY hate); my workarround was to use GCONF to modify the command executed by the "Print Screen" button (open GCONF, go to /ap...

Re: Screen brightness strange behaviour Dell Inspiron 9400
It seems strange that Ubuntu 10.04 worked fine, but Mint 12 doesn't. Are there no configuration files that can be altered? I don't know how the system works, but I imagine there is some kind of conversion of the screen brightness value into the voltage supplied to the backlight, and it is the conve...

Re: Cursor pauses every second or so
OK, fixed. I knew something was wrong when I booted into Windows and saw the same problems. In the BIOS too. I pulled the battery and the hard drive, put them back in and it wasn't stuttering anymore. I have no idea what was wrong. Ahh, good for you! I was about to make you pull the virtual guts of...

Re: Screen brightness strange behaviour Dell Inspiron 9400
I have just installed Linux Mint 12 32-bit on my Dell Inspiron 9400 (a.k.a. E1705), and have problems with screen brightness. Specifically, the screen brightness slider value (from low to high) does not map to the actual screen brightness. There appear to be 21 levels of brightness available on the...
