MSGE Looks Like Gnome 3!

Ok fellas, sorry for not being around for a while; I was kind of busy and didn't have enough time to play around with my Mint. Well, it turned out to be a graphics card issue all along. I have an ATI Radeon 5300 and had the OpenSource drivers installed. Seems that I was wrong and I am that much of a...

Re: How to add multiple Desktops??

Well, it depends in two thing: first of all, what do you mean by desktops? desktop environments, perhaps? (GNOME, Xfce, Fluxbox, LXDE, Unity, Mate). Or did you mean Workspaces? (One app in this one, one app in the other one, compartmentalize and so). The second thing depends in your edition of Mint ...

Re: The newest ADOBE Flash Player install problem...

I think we should go simple on the explanation, considering that "linux amateur" is still a newbie. I will answer a couple of questions that may have surged during the explanations in order to let you understand what you did and what you should have done. When downloading Flash Player from Adobe's w...

Re: Want to install LM12 for dual boot but...

Well, considering you are a newbie (as most of us :D) I would recommend the following: you don't want to partition manually unless you know what you are doing. So, my suggestion would be to use the "Install alongside it" option. When you open the install manager, it basically shows three options: "I...

After Kernel Upgrade

What Update Manager generally does is install the new kernel and run update-grub for you. This makes the most recent kernel the default. AFAIK it does not delete the old kernels (though this will happen in Ubuntu when you do a release upgrade). If the default kernel doesn't boot, you can choose a d...

Re: Desktop shortcuts

AFAIK, Gnome 3 doesn't allow you to add webpages as launchers (or shortcuts, wich is the same thing), but it does let you add shortcuts to your desktop. Well, if you don't mind having shortcuts with no images, you could follow this method: Access the Main Menu and search for the app you want to make...

After Kernel Upgrade

Ummm... You both make a good point; however, I already had run update-grub two times before posting this. About dwasifar's comment: That's odd, I remember having read in a Ubuntu forum (Wich, oddly enought, was encouraging users to switch to Mint) that one of the things that Ubuntu had done careless...

["SOLVED"] After Kernel Upgrade

Hello, forum fellas. Here's what goes on. I have been having a problem in my Mint Installation wich seems to be related to audio drivers (Wich is paradojical, since I don't even have propietary drivers and the audio card is kinda old). I thought it was no big deal since I managed to go quick and dir...

[SOLVED] Either I Borked my Mint or installed a Malware

Hello guys, and sorry if I wasn't arround for a while; it was tests week. Ok, I was away from my PC for a while and didn't have the time to look into the things you told me about, but I think most of my doubts are resolved. The crashes and freezings that I was experiencing were due to a bad desktop ...

MSGE Looks Like Gnome 3!

Heheheheheh, come on, Recorder, I'm newbie, I can grant you that, but I'm not that much of a newbie :D . I know MATE and have been using Gnome for a while now, so no, I wasn't using Gnome Classic nor MATE, but I guess it could have been a place to look into just to be sure. I wen't to synaptic after...

MSGE Looks Like Gnome 3!

Ok, I knew this wasn't right when I installed, but it never went through my mind that that could actually be the root of the problem; the Shell Extensions tab is empty.

I don't know why it is that way but it just is so, does anyone know how to change that?

[SOLVED] MSGE Looks Like Gnome 3!

Ok, fellas, I have been patient with this question since it was only a Beta version (an RC, if you prefer) the one I had installed, but now that I have upgraded to the full version of Mint 12, the same problem is there and it is just very frustating. The problem is the following: I DO have MSGE enab...

About Backups, BackInTime and Déjà Dup

Hello, forum fellas, I have a nice question for all of you who want to answer and/or want to share their own personal/professional opinion. Here is the thing, I have been a Windows User for a Long Long time, but in some point of my life (and thanks to Linux Mint) I decided to switch to the Linux Com...

Either I Borked my Mint or installed a Malware

I'm not sure about having been playing a Video, but it might be the case. Remember I said Mint froze? I had Opera running at the time and it crashed. Then, I opened the main menu (both to open opera again and to search [again] for both apps). The thing is that the freezing didn't happen once, but th...

Defragging with Tar

You make a very good point and explain yourself clearly; I actually had the same idea about that but wasn't quite sure if it was true. It makes a lot more sense now, and I see it is a dangerous thing to do. I actually thought it was "just" noneffective. Real good thing that I came to the forum and a...

Problems With MintMenu in Mint 12

I Finally got MintMenu to work. I don't really know how it happened, so don't ask. I had some time without booting into Mint 12 and decided to do so to uninstall KDE. I uninstalled and booted again into Mate. The first thing I noticed was that there were some updates available so I clicked Install. ...

Either I Borked my Mint or installed a Malware

Ok, fellas, I think I know what happened. This is something I found in my home folder after reading your comments. It is a file called hs_err_pid2227.log and its (un)happy contents are These: # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00000003, pid...

Extremely Slow Boot

AlbertP, you tell me to try booting with an old Riva or Radeon card, but there are two problems: first, I do not posses one and do not know where to get one (at least not an old one), and second, this problem isn't there since installation and I haven't changed any hardware since then; also, Mint 12...

MintMenu (Gnome)

I have tried to clean the Menu as well, I did this by deleting MintMenu of the panel and writing mintmenu clean in a terminal. The menu I got after that was default, but it still has the same problem; if I leave from "All Applications" to "Favorites" I can't use the keyboard and if I move from "Favo...

Either I Borked my Mint or installed a Malware

No, no, I'm not accusing the software manager of anything, I'm acusing a malicious .EXE file I downloaded that afternoon; the thing that worried me at first was the programs not showing in the menu, but you already told me that that was normal, sorry if I appeared quick to blame a Malicious script f...
