Re: Dual Monitor Trouble

I haven't been in Mint 11 for a while so be prepared to rename the apps I talk about. You open the Menu and choose an app called "Displays" (perhaps for you it's called "Monitors"?), choose the display you want to loose and Untick the "Same Image on all Monitors" (Perha...

Re: Bootable USB always returns, "Missing Operating System"

Hello, Forum. I have this HP USB, a literal lifeline, as it's my only tool for fixing my computers. It's 4gb, and I've used it mercilessly over the past few years. But, not I think I broke it whilst experimenting. I was testing out a ported version of the Chrome OS for Chromebooks, called, "Ch...

Re: KDE in Mint 12

Sorry, what? Why are you installing KDE like that? KDE is already in the Mint repositories (V 4.74) and ready to install as a simple apt-get. You don't need a PPA for KDE, just run: sudo apt-get install kde-full to install all KDE (With Kate, KOffice, Konsole, etc.) Also, I believe the Kubuntu-Deskt...

Re: Correct "working" way to run shell script at logon?

Well, I got it working finally. Strange thing is it didn't work when running gnome-session-properties at terminal......but browsing to Preferences --> Startup Applications i then Cinnamon menu did work. Strange. I still don't understand why none of the other methods worked, but I am satisfied and w...

Re: Where's my GNOME? I need the old GNOME bar!

I installed the Lisa Main Edition, which ostensibly has the GNOME desktop... ...what have the devs done to it? Whatever it is that you have replaced my old friend the GNOME with... ...and I really don't like the notion that Linux devs have taken the attitude that their Ubiquity screen is the perfec...

Re: LM 13 and Gnome

Cinnamon depends on Gnome 3 so it wouldn't really loose support, it just wouldn't be installed by default, as it happens in LMDE. You can install it then if you want, but (as Cinnamon and Mate will come in separate ISOs) you would have to install it on top of the Cinnamon edition so it doesn't pull...

Re: Problems with Nexuiz

I have played full-screen Nexuiz myself, so I can help you with that one. First, you have to go into your "Displays" app and turn of one monitor from there (you mention having two but only wanting/needing one) and then hit apply; then you can lower down the resolution for the display (In c...

Re: Cursor pauses every second or so

Sorry, but with that kind of info I can't be of any help. Try reading this and posting back. Mint 12 Gnome 32 bit is the OS. Searching got me nowhere and suggesting it is a condescending and unhelpful response. I'm not trying to be rude but "search before you ask" seems to be the default ...

If you feel system performance has decreased, then, yes, you should. As for the second question, I really couldn't know how you would downgrade it if I don't know how you installed it. Please read this before posting.

Re: Correct "working" way to run shell script at logon?

I read your post; please don't double post. I'm not a forum admin, so I won't nag you more than that. However, for what I've seen, your Conky script launches just fine when runnig under sudo, so it might be a permissions problem. Please post back the output of the following command: ls -l /home/jere...

Re: Ivy Bridge problem

FYI: both Mint 12 and Ubuntu 12.04 use the 3.3.4 kernel, and Ubuntu boots, while Mint doesn't :? You see, right there is where your mistake is :D Ubuntu is in version 12.04 as you say, but Mint is based on the 11.10 version and, thus, has an older kernel (3.0012, I believe; forums say 3.0 but that'...

Re: Where's my GNOME? I need the old GNOME bar!

While I admire your passion and feel the same way, I must tell you that you are not only being unfair and unnacurate, but also are aiming the gun to the wrong person. Linux Mint doesn't have anything to do with this, blame those clowns at GNU. They messed up Gnome and replaced it with something else...

You probably installed one of those crappy graphic card drivers that don't let you sleep or hibernate. Could you type this in a terminal and post here the output?

Re: no desktop effects after apt-get upgrade

Mint 10 has reached end of life (no more updates from now on). I'm afraid you will have to switch to either a newer version or to version 9 (which is LTS). I can't help you and even if I could, I would still recommend you to switch your Mint version; running outdated versions of software is extremel...

Re: cinnamon, virtualbox and black screens

Your host and Display adapter don't matter when you are in VirtualBox, Cinnamon doesn't run inside VirtualBox yet; version 1.5 will, but that is version 1.5 For now, you are stuck with Mate or Gnome Shell (I suggest you to Update Mate to version 1.4; it is *way* better than Gnome shell) and wait for...

Re: Can I have MATE be the default ?

Probably can't use Cinnamon with only 1GB of RAM. If you haven't changed the DM, LightDM should default to the last used desktop; However, if you have "AutoLogin" enabled, you have to go to "Login Settings" (I believe it is called; don't have a Mint right now to check) and change...
