Re: Make permanent resolution changes in Linux Mint 12?

Yeah, sorry about that, I should have paid more attention. Well, since you are using two displays at a time (mirror displays) it won't let you go further than the resolution supported by the screen that has the lowest resolution (in this case, that would be your laptop screen, featuring 1360X768 vs ...

Re: Xscreensaver setup to default

Have you tried to simply install xcreensaver? It should eliminate all other screensavers and hopefully not pull out that nasty dependencies. Try to just install it via terminal and post back here what dependencies it wants to install and remove.

Re: Wireless keyboard

Well, it is odd, but let me tell you about a workaround. There is a way for those indications to appear in the screen instead, are you interested? If you are, you need to open a terminal and type in the following: sudo apt-get update; sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tsbarnes/indicator-keylock; sudo apt-...

Re: LM 13 and Gnome

Cinnamon depends on Gnome 3 so it wouldn't really loose support, it just wouldn't be installed by default, as it happens in LMDE. You can install it then if you want, but (as Cinnamon and Mate will come in separate ISOs) you would have to install it on top of the Cinnamon edition so it doesn't pull ...

Re: installing xfce

well, you can usually install it by typing sudo apt-get install xfce4 in a terminal, have you tried that? It has never failed for me. Although it may just be some outdated sources or something, so I would suggest you to better use this command instead: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install xfce4

Re: how to start MATE menu using keyboard?

Nope, it is not doable now. With the old MintMenu you could pop the menu by using "Ctrl+Windows" but that no longer works. I'm guessing someone in the Mint Devs has spotted this an it is flagged as a bug, but I'm not really sure. I'll check on LaunchPad and see if I can find anything about it. If it...

Re: Mint 12 should I upgrade my laptop's RAM?

OK, since you have been asking around a lot of times, the answer is a big no no with a bit of explanation ;) . RAM helps multitasking, it doesn't help boot or apps opening time all that much. I usually run Opera with arround 12/15 tabs, Firefox with 8/10 Chromium with 5/8, 2 LibreOffice instances, B...

Re: I installed Linux Mint and laptop is very slow.

I installed Linux Mint 12 with UNetbootin, but the last version on it is the 10.. could be this the problem..?? even for Ubuntu the last version shows on Unetbooin is the 11.04.. You have an outdated version of UNetBootin. Maybe it has wrecked your installation. Try downloading a newer version and ...

Re: Installing Mint from USB

Have you tried UNetBootin? That one is more advanced than Startup Disk Creator; also, you can't just dd the iso into the drive, only the ISOs that got out from the KDE RC ahead are Hybrid (You can only dd Hybrid ISOs). Mint's Gnome edition is the Principal edition and for that it went out first than...

Re: how to move rom Ubuntu 10.10 to mint 12 on dual boot wit

Well, Actually it's pretty easy. Giventh that you have Ubuntu in a separate drive, just install Ubuntu into that drive and install GRUB (the BootLoader) into the MBR of the drive (you don't have to know what that is, but it presents itself as if it was the whole drive I.E "/dev/sdb" while a partitio...

Re: Moving from Ubuntu - can I keep my /home?

I wouldn't recommend that kind of update installation, there are lots of files hidden in the /home. The hidden files contain setup information of your used programs and desktop. In the new installation these might be erranous. Make a backup copy of all your own produced data ( like Music, Video, Do...

Re: Purchasing My First Laptop For Mint

Thanks for the info. I emailed a friend of mine today about the Toshiba and he felt it was a good price. I had also looked at a System76 machine which comes with Ubuntu installed on it and he felt that was a better machine albeit possibly not worth the extra $150 for similar specs. He did however h...

Re: Mint-Z Theme vanished.

Well, it is not that your theme vanished, it is that, for some reason, your graphics card conflicted with Xorg and kicked you into the low-graphics mode session. May we know what graphics card you have and general specs of the system? You can post that by writing: lspci in a terminal and then pasti...

Re: Missing shell themes

I enabled 3d in virtual box and it turns on now. But it doesn't work at all. I have installed the virtualbox guest editions allready. See screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/MmtxU.jpg Whenever I move up to the top right it tries to display the panel. I can only use it now in gnome classic or mate. Shoul...
