Re: Mint-Z Theme vanished.

Well, it is not that your theme vanished, it is that, for some reason, your graphics card conflicted with Xorg and kicked you into the low-graphics mode session. May we know what graphics card you have and general specs of the system? You can post that by writing: lspci in a terminal and then pastin...

Re: Missing shell themes

That is not Gnome Shell but Gnome Classic. When you don't have enough graphical resources the system throws you into a low-graphics mode session. Most likely you haven't got VirtualBox additions installed (think of them as drivers) or simply haven't got enough hardware. Whichever it is, post back if...

Re: Workspaces arranged in a static grid

Not able to have a 2D grid is still a problem for me. In my case I use it to organize my work space in a way where each row will represent a perforce branch, where each column will roughly represent a task, such as coding, compilation, debugging, etc. The point is there are many different use cases...

Re: Removing undesired desktops

Ummm... What version of Mint are you using and how much have you tweaked it? You have more sessions that I've ever had and make reference to either GDM 2.2 (Which is unsupported and quite old) or MDM (which is only available on Mint Debian (AKA LMDE) and that's no OS for newbies). The problem is tha...

Re: Purchasing My First Laptop For Mint

Well, I'm not the most experienced Linux user but I know a bit about the hardware listed on the info specs. I myself have a 2nd gen Core i5 Lenovo with Intel HD graphics (Intel Core i5 540M) and have been just fine. However, I have heard of people having problems with Intel HD graphics, specially Un...

Re: LMDE - Mate Login & Password?

Ummm.... Didn't know this was a known bug. I'm glad that the ISO wasn't corrupted but I always go to the "Bad Iso Image" scenario when something is wrong with a LiveCD. I usually tell people to test them and make sure everything is fine and if that clears out then I look for another soluti...

Re: Workspaces arranged in a static grid

I really need static workspaces. For me the mandated dynamic workspaces, and the disconcerting management of applications across workspaces, are distro-killers. It is crazy that when in workspace 3, I open a terminal - hoping to have a terminal dedicated to the tasks of workspace 3 - I am transport...

Re: Moving from Ubuntu - can I keep my /home?

No problem at all, feel free to reuse your /home partition. That's actually what it's made for :D

Anyway, do the same thing, format / and tell the installer to use the other partition (drive?) as /home. You'll be good to go. Cheers and welcome to our humble community. Danko.

Re: Gurb

Sorry for the typo. I think I will try lateralis option. I think I can install grub on a usb so that it will boot of that and install the mint on usb hd. The reason for this that I want the MBR to remain the same. I think that if GRUB is installed on usb drive that will not change the MBR am I righ...

Re: LMDE - Mate Login & Password?

It shouldn't require a login passwor; the user is called "mint" and is passwordless, but it should just get you into the desktop. The ISO you grabbed is most likely corrupted or the disk is wrongly burned. Did you check the md5sum before burining it? Also, at which speed did you bur the di...

Re: USB Full Install Lockup on 64bit

Hello Danko, Everything has been running great, just like it used to. I re-enabled the web cam and the bluetooth just to check to make sure it was my wifi card, and I haven't had a problem since. Even though I'll never use the web cam, or the wifi in the near future. I will change my bios settings ...

Re: USB Full Install Lockup on 64bit

Well, I made an uptime of one hour so far. I've disabled my web cam via bios, and disabled my wifi, and bluetooth via config file in linux (even though I wasn't using it, it was still enabled). I'm not sure which it was? It was probably the wifi like Danko8321 suggested. I haven't made it passed fi...

Re: USB Full Install Lockup on 64bit

Ummm... I probably have nothing for you then. I had heard of this kind of freeze in notebooks with similar hardware, but it was entirely related to the wireless card. The freeze appeared in those cases when someone tried to use the network. Being it that that is not the case, I am sorry to say that ...

I installed the kde version of mint 12 and than downloaded cinnamon, gnome and openbox. While logging in I chose metacity from the drop down menu. Re: Wired connection disconnected after suspend/sleep

Have you tried doing the same thing on Mint? Mint is based on Ubuntu (and LUbuntu is based on Ubuntu) so whatever fix you applied there should work here as well. Give it a try and tell me whether it works.

I'm not sure why, but the update manager notification icon is close to the middle of the panel. How can I move it next to the other icons? Do I need to build a new panel? Thanks for the help. Is that Mint 11? Because if it is, right click *near* the UPM icon and a popup submenu will appear. It shou...

My first question would be "Why on earth wolud you add 15 favorites?", but I wouldn't go with that now; it doesn't really matter. Anyway, could you please share with us what version of Mint you're using? Also, it would be very helpful if you could take a screenshot of the problem and share...

Hello and welcome to our humble community :) Well, even though I'm not much of a newbie anymore (Please do notice the 'much') I agree with you; there are way too many UI's and Logins by default. My first idea would be "give them all a try and when you have chosen the one that you like better yo...

Re: Prefer Gnome Classic, how to uninstall other options

Does removing Gnome Shell remove Gnome 3? Or are they the same thing? I'm confused... Anyway, I discovered today that my touchpad and function buttons don't work...in Mate. The function buttons work in Gnome, but I noticed the contrast buttons don't actually change the contrast, it pops up the litt...
