Re: Update Pack 3 not in use

It sounds like the new kernel is installed so I'd say the updates have been carried out.
What happens during the boot process for the new kernel, does it load anything or just go straight to blinking cursor ?

Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

I just upgraded to 3 and it's turned into a bit a yawn really, except for a minor hiccup at the dpkg stage it's all gone great. Everything works fine. The Virtual box modules needed a quick tweak, and now it works fine too. I have an intel based laptop and all the hardware is recognised and working....

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information

Sorry if this seems like I'm hijacking this thread, it wasn't my intention. When i ran dpkg again (with sudo dpkg --configure -a) to fix the broken packages it hung again on wvdial, so I hit ctrl-c and it skipped that and continued to configure the other packages. It then configured grub and gave me...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information

I just killed the process and rebooted. It has installed grub on the correct drive even though dpkg reported otherwise. The new kernel is functional and everything seems to be working OK. When I run dpkg again it gets to setting up wvdial and just hangs, so it seems to be leaving me with an incomple...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information

My update seems to have hung when it got near the end of the configruation process. It says setting up wvdial (1.61-4) and it has stayed that way for over 30 minutes Any suggestions on how I should handle this? Also when the update manager configured grub it detected another version of mint on sda1 ...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information

Does this update default to gnome 3 and do I get the option to use my current version of gnome?

Re: considering mint, need some info

You've raised some good points, with people bailing out of Ubuntu in droves there is a good opportunity for Mint to fill the gap. The desktop manager is the interface that people use and if the distro has a substandard one many people judge the OS on that alone. If the installer were to make a sugge...

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

Why doesn't mint come with a light GDM that will work on older systems.
That way people with modern hardware can run Gnome 3 and people with older hardware can have a functional desktop at installation.
We used to have a choice of managers but now we don't get that choice.

Hello Mint communtiy

Hello everyone! I've been using Linux for about 7 years or so, in the early days just getting Linux to run without a gdm was a protracted experience that really tested your resolve. Getting a gdm to run was cause for a major celebration. These days installing Linux is a much less demanding experienc...
