Re: Linux Mint 12 with Mate

Hi I'm a relative newbie to Linux. I have been using MS Widows and DOS for years, I tried Fedora several times since version 4. Never could get completely away from windows because I couldn't get all of the Linux software to do my tasks. I tried various other distributions over the years , Knoppix,...

Re: Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

I am still digging into this. With so many variables it has proved difficult to narrow down the source of the problem. Everything appears to work, I just cannot read the fonts in the menu. And oddly the gibberish on the screen changes periodically for the same menu choice. I am beginning to wonder ...

For others that may be as lost as I was, you can get LM 12 KDE RC on your favorite mirror, here:

Re: Mint 13 LTS ideas?

@Hawkeye you have hit the bulls eye ;) No you are not making things complicated. LMDE is not for end users (as on today IMO) XFCE should not have been abandoned. Many users including one of OMG Ubuntu author has downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 and installed XFCE. If there was a poll, then things ...

Re: Mint 12 gnome with ATI graphics

I installed Mint 12 Gnome on my laptop with ATI graphics today and configured the settings. Everything worked fine when I choose Gnome classic or Mate but the others including Cinnamon don't work right. I get text that runs together and it displays garbled text. As stated it works fine with Gnome C...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

I'm sorry ahead of time for this post, because I'm sure it has already been answered somewhere, but: Where do I download a copy of the Live DVD for LM 12 KDE RC? I have spent the last 30-45 minutes rummaging around the forums and the Community website. Thanks for any direction you can give me... Haw...

Re: Good bye Mint

After months of dissatisfaction with various versions of Mint including 9, 10, 11, and 12, both 32 bit and 64bit, I have finally bitten the bullet and installed PCLinux OS Phoenix instead. Why is it that the maker of Mint just can't make a decent distro that works without faults? Hmm? In the series...

Re: Menu fonts screwed

Not sure how this has happened, suddenly appeared after trying a couple of new themes. I've gone back to the original (Adwaita) theme and then to Gnome Dark again, also tried restart and switching back to Gnome Classic etc. It only happens with Cinnamon, possibly related to an early posters problem? A...

Re: Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

Now I am starting to think that it may be Fedora 16 and the video card I have in this particular box. I reinstalled Fedora 16 and found that a few of those fonts look weird also. I did not notice before as there are not really any menus to look at and it did not default to the fail over version if ...

Is It Time To Overhaul The Calendar?

Interesting, but I'm not sure whether I'd like my birthday to fall on the same day every year:

Re: Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

I will not give up on this until I figure it out. I really, really, dislike gnome3 (it would probably be OK if it was on a tablet but not a desktop, especially not they way I like to work) and it looks like the eventual aim of cinnamon will give me back what I want. Your right about it being only t...

Re: Mint 13 LTS ideas?

Let me try to make the choices even more complicated. Probably my greatest skill  . First, Linux Mint has developed into a sophisticated distribution with two district personalities; the first is based upon Ubuntu, the second is based upon Debian. The issue of LTS is only applicable to the Ubun...

Re: Clem is awesome.

Let's be real here. Linux Mint 12 pretty much sucks. Everyone knows it, and apparently that also includes Clem. So what is he doing about it? He's forking the Gnome Shell to fix everything wrong with Gnome 3 (Cinnamon). It's clear he listens to us here and on the blog, and in IRC, and it's clear th...

Re: Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

I am having the exact same problem, but only on a box running Fedora 16. The menu fonts on my Mint 12 box render ok, but the Fedora 16 box menu text looks exactly like you describe. At first I thought I might need a better video card, but everything else renders ok. I did notice that when I install...

Re: Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

I have no experience of Cinnamon, though I have seen the behaviour that you seem to be experiencing. Have you tried rebooting? Roken, I have rebooted out of and back into Cinnamon -- no success. I have also rebooted out of Cinnamon, into Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, and MATE, then back to Cinnamon -...

Trouble With Font Rendering In Menu

After Clem's recent blog concerning Cinnamon, I updated my LM 12 and then logged into Cinnamon 1.1.3. The desktop looks fine, as well as the fonts on the panel, but when I try to open the Menu, all I get are unreadable 'blocks' -- no words or fonts  . I am running LM 12 on an older 64 bit machi...

oldrocker99, 1> What version of Linux Mint did you install this in? 2> How long have you been using it? 3> What problems have you experience so far? I was a 'true lover' of KDE 3.XX, and only switched to Gnome because of the change to 4.XX, so I am very interested in a desktop manager that would giv...
