Re: LMDE How to Encrypt Home Directory?

Found the solution to my own question. It's 'ecrypt', not 'encrypt'.

[Solved]LMDE How to Encrypt Home Directory?

Hi, Can anyone tell me how to encrypt my home directory please? I've found a guide relating to Ubuntu which says to use ecryptfs-migrate-home, but when I tried it, it makes reference to it being availble in encryptfs-utils, but I can't install it. Anyone give me a link to a "Howto" or tell me how I ...

Re: SOLVED: CUPS Adding Printer Forbidden. Linux Mint Debian

Just checking. CUPS wants the user "root" and root password. Not a user and his password. Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I was using my user name and password, since that's what Ubuntu wants and that's the system I'm used to. I'll try remember that for future, but since it's currently working, I'm ...

Re: Netbook - Currently Using Ubuntu

Wouldn't you prefer Debian Stable for work? I understand your line of thinking, unfortunately I like the newer versions of Firefox/Iceweasel and a few other applications. My Mint Debian on my home Desktop is very stable and has never crashed. Admittedly, I don't actually use the computer very inten...

Re: Netbook - Currently Using Ubuntu

Hi, Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Unfortunately I don't have a choice when it comes to this Netbook, it belongs to my work. They say the disk must be encrypted and the computer is periodically inspected. Without sounding like I'm taking my toys and running off sulking, I'll probably give Debia...

Re: Netbook - Currently Using Ubuntu

Hi, That's sounds quite close to what I was after, except currently everything except /boot is encrypted. From reading that review, it appears to not be supported. Not sure if this is worthy of it's own thread or not, but how come there is no 64 bit version? What difference does this make to speed? ...

[Solved] - Netbook - Currently Using Ubuntu

Hi all, I currently have a Netbook that is quite slow, I feel partly thanks to Ubuntu Oneiric. I'm thinking of changing to LXDE Mint, but just want to check, since I don't want to change my partitions. Is there an alternative installer for Mint? I can't find it, but even Ubuntu alternative installer...

Re: Document Reader

Hi thanks Have just tried it, but unfortunately I have a pdf file I need to read. I use pdftotext and it has a load of random characters in it now, so when it speaks it, it gets confused and says strange things. :( Useful to know though, so when I have .doc files I can just copy and paste it into a ...

Re: Document Reader

Nope, even my wife's computer, which has more processing power than my Netbook and PC together (well, it's something 3Ghz) cannot handle Adobe Reader speaking for more than a page. It freezes for a few minutes and stops mid-sentence for a minute then restarts. Impossible to listen to. If Windows doe...

Re: Document Reader

I've had no joy with any thing I've tried so far. Most I've tried seem to read just text documents (Festival for example). Adobe Reader won't work on a 64bit system. Orca just won't work, I followed the instructions on their website but no joy. Couldn't find anything on Google's website about speaki...

Re: Document Reader

Screader and orca since there's either very little support for it or it takes some serious set up to work. I'm not very good with computers, I literally understand "aptitude install" and "aptitude purge"

I'll have a search for Google text to speech now.

Ubuntu One on LMDE

Hi all, I've seen a guide on the internet relating to running Ubuntu One on Debian and was considering following it, but wanted to check first how well it works, or if it's barely usable. Currently have Dropbox with the 3GB or so I've earnt free, so Ubuntu One comes in handy with it's 5GB free. Addi...

<SOLVED> Update to Latest Version of Transmission

Hi all I used to run Ubuntu which has a later version of Transmission, have upgraded to Mint Debian and now my TorrentFu for Android doesn't work. I'm thinking it's a version thing, is there a way to upgrade to the latest version of transmission. According to aptitude I have it installed already, ju...

Haha, I've only ever used CUPS, that certainly appeared to have worked!

I'll print a document or two just to check it.

Thanks

SOLVED: CUPS Adding Printer Forbidden. Linux Mint Debian

Hi all, I'm new to Mint, am using the Debian version after learning the hard way why constant change is bad from Ubuntu. I hate computers and use them because I have to, not because I like them  I'm just trying to set my system up again, so adding a printer via CUPS. I've logged into localhost:...
