Re: [Solved] How Do I Upgrade to Linux Kernel 3.6.6?

Thank you very much and it's very kind of you to think of us that were looking to do this.

I'll admit I'm a little scared to do any more as it's working, and I don't like to fix what isn't broken.

Re: GParted 'Random' Partition

I don't know how your manufacturer uses the partition, so I can't say. It's a small enough partition that, IMHO, it's not worth the hassle and risk involved in reclaiming the space, so I just wouldn't worry about it. I think, looking in perspective, that's a very insightful post and I'll leave it a...

Re: GParted 'Random' Partition

Ok, I think the hibernation idea is correct. Is it safe enough to just delete? I suspend rather than hibernate, especially given that my swap is encrypted.

Re: Upgraded Graphics Card. "Out of Range" Error

Hi,

I in the terminal, as root, I used the command

Code: Select all

aticonfig --resolution=0,800x600
Which, funny old thing, set the resolution to 800x600, which my monitor can handle and then used the ati catalyst to set the resolution to the size I wanted.

Thanks :)

Re: Upgraded Graphics Card. "Out of Range" Error

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately it didn't work, as soon as it got to the 'graphical bit' for the login it displays out of range.

I can get into a terminal by pressing ctrl+alt+f1 is there any way I can change ctrl+alt+f7's resolution from there?

Thanks

Re: How Can I Quickly and Easily Resize Images?

Hi

Thank you very much. The reasons listed (and more) are the reasons that I wanted to reduce the image size. I'll make use of ImgBin.Org in future to prevent it happening again.

Thanks :)

[Solved] GParted 'Random' Partition

Hi all, I've got this random partition sat on my hard drive. The second is Windows recovery partition, the third is the Windows partition itself and fourth is Linux. It's an Intel SSD and I notice that the random partition is also exactly the same size as my RAM (co-incidence?) http://imgbin.org/ima...

[Solved] Upgraded Graphics Card. "Out of Range" Error

Hi all, My old graphics card died in my computer so I've upgraded it to the cheapest one I could find. ATI AMD Radeon 5450. I've installed the ATI drivers fine, but now the card has kindly set it's resolution to 1600x1200, which my monitor can't handle. I've tried rebooting, but my screen still just...

Re: Touchpad Not Working?

Hi,

I've tried pressing the button to turn the touchpad on and off. That didn't work.

What are my options here. Is it likely something that will never be fixed in Linux, or will I have to wait for a kernel or two before it'll work?

Thanks

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to get the volume control back in my bar please? The picture below shows where I'd expect to find it, and that it does indeed seem to be missing.

Re: Touchpad Not Working?

Hi,

No it doesn't work off a Live CD, but it works fine in Windows 7.

Those two commands didn't make it work either.
cwsnyder wrote:See if these commands in a terminal make it work:

Thanks for the ideas. Keen to hear others! :)

Re: How Do I Upgrade to Linux Kernel 3.6.6?

Fixed it!

Code: Select all

Get the firmware by
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git
cd
cd linux-firmware
sudo cp rt3290.bin /lib/firmware
That solved it for me!

Re: How Do I Upgrade to Linux Kernel 3.6.6?

It appears thanks to your help I am now running 3.6.6.1~experimental. Unfortunately, within Network Manager my wireless card now says "device not ready (firmware missing)" so it appears to be a different message now, but still not resolved.

Any ideas? :(
