Re: Question regarding compatibility

Just to be sure, if I follow what that guy did on the forum after booting into the LiveDVD, it will install Wine without the internet? And does it matter if it's Linux Mint 10 or 11? No, you'll definitely need the cabled network available. The guide says to download the driver from the website of t...

Nope, the link that I posted should explain it all. It will install Wine to install the driver-package, which is then used by the NDIS Wrapper in Linux.

Yup,

Regretfully neither my motherboard nor my storage has a USB3-interface :(

Re: Question regarding compatibility

Hya,

It seems that this brand/model isn't supported natively. Over at Ubuntu-forum someone has described how he/she solved it using the NDIS Wrapper.

Your question is really easily put to the test though, download the LiveCD, put it to CD/USB and boot from it? :)

Re: Installed nVidia drivers on LMDE, now all fonts are bigg

Hi there,

Seems to be a common issue with this subject. I think you should be able to solve it using this topic.

Basically you need to change your "Dots per Inch (DPI)".

Re: help me understand tty numbers

What controls what number the graphical system will be on? I was working along and it was on F7, then I went to go back to it and it was F9. Very odd, no explanation for that. Should not be so unless something manually was changed. Also, do the 1-6 ttys ever log you out after x minutes of inactivit...

It's been touch and go for me as well, although Unetbootin on Windows 7 is pretty consistently successful...

Fair enough :)

My netbook doesn't have one, I run everything from USB. Don't know how much the difference is between the two, but still a good point.

(Kernel?) Freeze with eSata connected

Hi all, I've been running Linux on 2 laptops for a long time now, but never reinstalled it on my desktop after my last HDD-replacement, as Windows 7 fulfills the needs and allows me to game. But, an itch needed to be scratched so I decided to create a dual-boot. Here's where I've been running into t...

Re: Cron won't run my bash script - newbie help needed!

Also, please capture logging for any crontab scripts. You really won't know what is going wrong without logging  You can easily do this, by inserting the following line after the #!/bin/bash line: exec >>/var/log/myscript.log 2>&1 This appends logging from stdout and stderr to the file /var/l...

Re: Battery charge with Mint on laptop

There's another topic going on this subject. It's a kernel-issue, not a distribution one, and seems to only affect some types of laptop/batteries. That being said, your situation is really easily testable, by just booting from a liveCD while not having a power-adapter attached? Good luck!! Anakin

Experience.

sources.list has a fixed format, every line starts with "deb" (source location) or "#" (comments), wget and echo do nothing inthere :)

Re: Can I Change Computer Name?

Thank you Anakin. It sounds so easy but I am new to Linux. This is not a big deal, but being unable to even understand how to follow your simple instructions has sent me on a mission to better understand the whole root user and sudo thing. I won't mark this [Solved] just yet, but will attempt to fi...

Re: Update Manager error

Hi,

You can edit the file as root. Easiest way for that would be

Code: Select all

gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
This will ask you for your password, start gedit as root and open the file /etc/apt/sources.list :)

Jimmy

Re: Can I Change Computer Name?

Hi Apsey, You need to change 2 files: /etc/hostname - enter the new hostname /etc/hosts - replace the hostname after 127.0.0.1 you don't need to reboot, you can run the command hostname <<NewName>> When you next boot, the system will read /etc/hostname and set it accordingly. source Regards, Anakin

Did you mean perform a command as another user? If this is the case you can use sudo -u . He/she meant that while being su-ed to root you can execute the command "logname" to display the username of the user you're su-ing with :) @swift, it might be a distro-issue?
