Re: keyboard volume keys and mute key

I also noticed this, by default the multimedia keys on my keyboard do not work in MATE, the Keyboard Shortcut app seems to work but the changes are not picked up by MATE, I presume it stores it somewhere that Gnome3 uses but not MATE, I need to do some more digging

Re: is LMDE's old MintUpdate broken?

thanks zerozero, swapping the sudoers file to use the new version fixed it as it contained the secure_path which the old one didn't. In future I will let the installing package use the new config (unless I definitely know I have changed it for some good reason) I will check out Icedove/weasel, altho...

Re: is LMDE's old MintUpdate broken?

Thanks zerozero for the info, that would make sense if MintUpdate is using sudo then that would explain why su works, so is there a newer working version of sudo or can I roll it back to an earlier version? Thinking back I do remember a sudo update being installed about 3 updates ago and it did ask ...

[Solved] is LMDE's old MintUpdate broken?

Hi, As I couldn't get some updates which fixed hardware issues with the new Update Pack version a while back I decided to stay with the older original MintUpdate in LMDE, but is seems that it is not working properly the last two times when I ran it, the packages are downloaded and it then says it ca...

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

@gat - I don't know but I doubt it some how, they're probably too busy working on Debian.

(my suggestion was based on the fact that LMDE currently uses debian testing repositories, so why not use them in the mint update-pack set up if the package are still available)

Re: Touchpad Tab

@josefg - you can revert to the old mintupdate (as I just did) if you put the /etc/apt/source/list back to how it was (before you swapped to mintupdate-debian) then do reload in synaptic (or sudo apt-get update) then install mintupdate and it removes mintupdate-debian, reboot, you should be able to ...

I know that, it is how they get there that I am saying could be done differently, reread what I wrote.

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

No, what I was proposing was to use the existing local debian.org mirrors if they contain the packages listed in the update pack, but if not there then go to linuxmint.com, Again this is just an idea, not sure if it is doable. For example, the update pack contains a list of 5 packages, for this exam...

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

but is this 1Gbps service fast from all over the world? Maybe in some countries a local repository would still be preferable.

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

I realise that the debian.org repository will get updated between releases of the update packs but if the mintupdate-debian program tested the required file names in the local debian.org repo it could use that instead of the linuxmint.com one which should hopefully speed it up and take the load off ...

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

I have just switched to mintupdate-debian on my LMDE and had a thought, this may have been already suggested. I'm not sure if this doable (or it may already do this), but rather than have just one repo as "debian.linuxmint.com" why not make mintupdate-debian so it just holds the Update Pack list of ...

Re: Install Fails

you could try this when I installed my LMDE I manually converted my /etc/fstab to use UUIDs, in terminal run "sudo blkid" and you get output like /dev/sda2: UUID="477ecf61-d00d-4844-b09d-19dad984ec14" TYPE="swap" /dev/sda1: UUID="8a8f955f-6bed-4061-ad44-4dd48ca8ed6d" TYPE="ext4" /dev/sda3: UUID="211...

It all works fine in Mint11 and LMDE, I think they fixed it in newer versions of the kernel.

Re: Linux Mint Debian - blank screen

I had problems on my Toshiba with an ATI card, you could try turning off kernel mode setting, to do this try changing grub, this is not permanent and will only affect the current boot, to do this... - hold shift at boot time to get the grub menu, the default boot item will be highlighted - press "e"...

Re: Touchpad Tab

I had problem with my touchpad when I first installed LMDE last week, it worked but I couldn't configure it as I like side scrolling on and tapping off, I installed "gpointing-device-settings" but it wasn't listed just a Logitech pointing device, so after hunting around for drivers but I realised I ...

Re: Startup Sounds Don't Work

I installed LMDE last week and noticed no login sound, been having a play today, it looks like a bug and I can't see how to fix it properly BUT I have a workaround. open terminal run gnome-session-properties untick "Gnome Login Sound" and close it then run gedit '.config/autostart/libcanberra-login-...

Zeitgeist - logging everything you do in Mint11

When looking on my System Monitor today I noticed a process called "zeitgeist-daemon" and I wondered what it was, now I know and I don't like it , zeitgeist logs every time you open a file or open an application, basically everything you do, I found this description "Zeitgeist logs user's activities...

Re: Setting a Compiz or Metacity default

changing /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/classic-gnome.session as described in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1757759 worked for me (on the second attempt after I realised I was changing the wrong file, doh)

Re: Setting a Compiz or Metacity default

I was going to ask the same question, how do I set the Compiz as the default window manager, it is set as the default on my laptop but not my desktop!

I've just discovered this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1757759, so will have a play later
