Re: Gnome 3

I downloaded the Gnome 3 live USB (the Fedora based one) last week to have a look and see what all the fuss was about. I must admit it does look slick and fairly polished, an interesting design and layout, I'm not sure how good it would be to use on a daily basis without trying it. Something I did n...

Re: Ubuntu Changes, Will Linux Mint as Well?

Mereyub, I think this may help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux, it explains a lot about how Linux came about, originally developed by Linus Torvalds who is still working on the kernel development. Because it is free and open source and governed but the license known as the GPL (GNU General Public...

Re: No SOUND !!

Re: No SOUND !!

I have just installed Mint10 Gnome Amd64 with all the updates on my Asus X52F with Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series audio and I have sound, but the headphones were not cutting out the speakers so thanks to deo11187 you saved me lots of effort as "options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad" works for ...

Re: Flash broken (youtube videos red)

Same problems here, disabling he hardware acceleration only worked until I restarted Chromium then it came back. I ended up using Synaptic to remove "mint-flashplugin' which is currently 10.2.161.23, then I downloaded and installed the Hardy .deb package from the Adobe site which is 10.2.152.27, and...

Re: Laptop Lockups, definitely fixed [closed]

This problem came back big time a few weeks ago in Mint 10 RC, in Firefox every time I visited http://www.ebuyer.com my laptop would lockup and sometimes the screen would gradually fill with horizontal gray lines, so I thought it must be the video driver, from my recent experience with LMDE I used t...

Re: No sound in Adobe Flash

I have had problems with sound on both my LMDE systems (also on Mint9 and Ubuntu), and with most releases, it can get complicated and messy. After I got the sound working on my laptop (by reinstalling the alsa drivers from source, which is actually quite easy), I too had a problem in Firefox and Fla...

how does mintupdate work on LMDE

This is confusing me, the mintupdate shield has a tick on it but then I click on it anyway and then it says there are 50 updates, so how does that work?

Re: No sound in Adobe Flash

don't worry about uninstalling "mint-meta-deabian" package as it doesn't seem to remove anything, I found this out recently when I removed flashplugin-nonfree and the manually installed the lastest version that I downloaded from the debian sid page, I just went into synaptic and put it back on after...

Re: Firefox software updates

maybe Clem has forgotten about it? On the Flash player front, I couldn't do a re-install because the flashplugin-nonfree deb package is no where to be found. I manually installed the newer version 1:2.8.2 which I downloaded from the sid page http://packages.debian.org/sid/flashplugin-nonfree, using ...

Re: Firefox software updates

while I'm waiting for Firefox to be updated in the Mint Debian repository (I only manually updated one PC to 3.6.10, the other is still 3.6.8 ) I have another question which affects Firefox, this is, I noticed that overnight my Ubuntu server updated itself with the latest verion of Flash player ("fl...

Re: Firefox software updates

I got too impatient, I let it update itself, may have broken the Mintiness of it, will find out later. I did sudo fireox then ran check for updates but did not restart but closed and did sudo firefox again then it installed the update itself, I think folders it installs itself into are as per Ubuntu...

Re: Odd problem causing log out

Yes I had this problem but only on one PC, my desktop running Mint9 64bit, I noticed that occasionally something would crash and I would be thrown out back to the logon screen, seemed to do it if Terminal or Firefox or when renaming files in Nautilus and other programs, the only common thing was tha...

Firefox software updates

Today on both my LMDE systems I have had software update notication pop-ups from Firefox, are the Mint flavoured updates going to appear in the repository or should I start Firefox as root let it update itself (or does that break the Mint branding?). I did the former in Mint9 but the latter when I w...

Re: changing fstab to use uuid

thanks for the replies, it seems I was doing it right, I just wanted to check that I wasn't missing anything. One other small point is I noticed that entries for proc end up in fstab twice, does this matter or is it by design? at the top proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 and a bit further down proc /proc...

Re: Having a huge problem, pic included, could use some help

I've since discovered a better way of making it permanent (and not dependent on grub)

in terminal
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
change it contents to
options radeon modeset=0
save

AND the video is better than it was on Mint9, the full screen stuttering video is now fixed :D

Re: The verdict so far?

I've converted both my Mint9 machines to LMDE, it definitely seems faster, and yes I have had a few problems with the usual soundcard problems and a video one which was a show stopper (ATI driver crashing) but as I have multiple machines I could work out how to fix it and I like a challenge anyway, ...
