Some Vga card have problem with GNOME shell in Mint 12. If you insist use mint 12 , Gnome classic ( no effect) and MATE is the choice . Or you can wait and try Mint 12 KDE ( release after Christmas ) I suspect ALL Video Cards which are simply listed as 'VGA CARDS' are not going to function properly...

This update on what I would consider to be a MAJOR BUG that was released in the 'Standard Release' AFTER the RC release came out (oh my!) is mentioned and the patches placed into the Romeo unstable quick release channel was pushed into action.
