Switching Sound output

I decided I want to try and install LinuxMint on my desktop. However I have one problem that may be hard to overcome. My sound card is broken, but not completely. No sound will come out of the standard green output, however using the utility included with my motherboard I was able to make the comput...

Re: Please remember to help seed the Mint 5 R1 torrent

I had problems with flash when I installed R1, so I've gone back to the original (took awhile to find a place that hosted the old image.)

Snes9x GTK

I would easily consider the definitive gui version of Snes9x for Linux. The gui is onpar with the Windows version

Re: WOTW #006 Vote

Voted for the last one. Its nice to see something besides the usual dark backgrounds.

I'm starting to wonder though, why do most of the submitted backgrounds have Linux Mint on them? I don't see Apple, Microsoft or Ubuntu pasting their logo in every background they include.

Re: Linux just aint ready

Since when is Windows 'out of the box'? The only time I've ever been able to install XP easily is on the hackjob computer I made for my stepbrother. It only worked because the parts were old and XP already had the drivers. On the same old hardware Linux Mint installed fine too. If you use new hardwa...

Re: Ever get anyone to try Mint?

If you are trying to get someone to checkout Linux then you should not give them a beta of any sort as it is suspected to have problems. Instead give them the latest stable release then when they see they like it they can upgrade to a beta for experimentation. Actually at first I installed Daryna o...

Ever get anyone to try Mint?

I was wondering if anyone here had every gotten somebody to try Linux Mint on their computer? Did they stay and what where their thoughts? Recently my little step brother decided to install Linux Mint on his computer. I gave him the 48beta disk and he installed and tried it for a week or two. He eve...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa officially released!

I did a completly clean install for this one and everything has worked fine so far. Firefox has yet to crash because of youtube, but I won't say its fixed until I go a week without it crashing. I did notice that occasionally youtube videos sound will play but no video will display, refreshing will a...

Re: tell about yourself..

Our home computer was my uncles Mac of some sort. It had no internet capability and I only used it to occasionally play with paint. We got our first Windows computer in 96-97, It was a Progen with 95 installed on it. After that crapped out (due to me playing with stuff) my mother bought me an emachi...

Re: Screenshot - Photoshop CS2 running in Wine

I've never been able to get CS2 installed right. It will not let me use the text tool and then shortly after will just break and not let me use the program at all. Its not a big deal since I hate doing graphic work on my laptop.

Re: Burn DVD MOVIES question

I would never bother reencoding for a DVD. To keep any type of decent quality you'll have to encode for a very long time. If you can hooking your computer up to your TV is a great way to get around encoding and you'll be able to play any format you come across. Its also great for playing emulators i...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa - BETA 032 is out!

Well I got Elyssa working perfectly now. I had to add a line to alsa-base to get my headphones working and now they work just like the did in Windows, shutting off the main speakers when I plug them in(Darnya didnt do this) I also uninstalled flash 9 and installed flash 10. Now all the stability iss...

Re: About KDE CE 5.0 Elyssa

I have no problem with the KDE version getting more attention. However I would never want it to replace Gnome. I've never actually used KDE myself, but I haven't seen anything I like about it. I prefer simplicity over eyecandy.
