Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)
What's the take on 3.8? It's winning me over as default desktop. Still a bit annoying how all your added third-party frills become outdated or broken at every 0.2 update, but vanilla gnome-shell is certainly not laggy or buggy anymore.

First thing you do in a virtualbox cinnamon is to disable hot corners and edge flip.

Re: Mint hijacked my Chrome/Google search!
Found a proper fix, can someone please confirm that this works for them too? In Chrome/ium, click the Settings Icon in the top right corner (was a wrench icon, now 3 horizontal lines). Choose Settings from the drop-down menu. A new settings tab opens, under Search, click "Manage Search Engines". De...

Re: Global menu (appmenu) in Cinnamon?
Don't try to read too much into a simple comment about prefernces. As was mentioned before, all it takes for Cinnamon to have a global menu option is for someone to write an applet for it. That's how Cinnamon has gotten nearly all its options so far, and how future functionality will be created for...

Re: online accounts icon missing from gnome control center.
Again, even if you get the icon to appear in Cinnamon, Online Accounts doesn't integrate with Cinnamon, so your chat/mail/social media messages won't appear anywhere. Unity and gnome-shell have it because they have it integrated with the shell. Your problem is not the icon not showing, your problem ...

Re: online accounts icon missing from gnome control center.
Yeah, gnome-shell (and Unity) is way ahead in that department. You get the feeling that none of the devs working on Cinnamon have changed PC habits since the 90s. Online accounts integration is a basic requirement in a modern OS, and there's not even something in the pipeline for Cinnamon other than...

It's controlled by GTK theme, not by Cinnamon theme.

Re: online accounts icon missing from gnome control center.
gnome-control-center's online accounts is integrated with gnome-shell - it won't work with Cinnamon.

Re: Bumblebee will suddenly not start
Well, it actually works sort of OK for me (starting the daemon). It has to be done at each system startup (adding the command to Startup Applications didn't help, can't be arsed to make a bash script), and my laptop is never completely silent as it was before, but I'm able to reach the same low CPU ...

So I'm not alone - this happens to me as well.
Try:
This gets things going it seems, though it's not working quite as well as it did before. If anyone finds a proper solution, please report back in here
Try:

Re: Cinnamon theme and css
drcasper - you can see what works in an image heavy theme, e.g. Týr.
Cinnamon's css is based on but by no means the same as "web" css - lots of things in web css that don't work in "shell" css.

Re: MATE vs. Cinnamon, which is more likely to continue?
Mint development is focused on Cinnamon more than MATE because Cinnamon is a creation of the Mint devs (clem & glebihan, I think), and MATE is an independent project "championed" by Mint. You sometimes see MATE described as a Mint project or even a Mint fork, but that's a misunderstanding. Personall...

4. Make Linux Mint conform to the Free Software Foundations guidelines for a FREE operating system. Remove any and all propriety drivers and software. I like the way openSUSE does it . I installed the classicshell UI makeover (the "Gnome Classic" of Windows 8 - only chance my girlfriend will like Win 8 and not ask me to install Win 7 again) which gives this result: http://i.imgur.com/G5VmBvY.png A slightly daft looking Win 7 desktop. I guess re-installing Win 7 will be on my todo...
