Re: gnome3 ‘s Scroll bar is to wide

That's theme specific, not Gnome 3 specific. Change to a gtk3 theme with thinner scrollbars or edit relevant theme files in /usr/share/themes/THEMENAME/

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

Linux Mint 12 RC is more stable than Ubuntu 11.10 final for me, but that depends very much on your hardware. You will experience glitches using the default login session with Gnome Shell, but I haven't experienced any serious bugs.

Re: Congratulations Clem and Mint Team

Buzzkill alert!

Isn't Mint on distrowatch a common entry for all variations of Mint whereas the Ubuntu family is split into separate entries? (ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, lubuntu and what have you)

Search for "pinta" in the software manager. Program description: Pinta is a drawing/editing program modeled on Paint.NET. Its goal is to provide a simplified alternative to the GIMP for casual users. Features include: - Adjustments (Auto level, Black and White, Sepia, …) - Effects (Motion blur, Glow...

Re: My nitpick with Mint's approach

aethyr, your complaints and frustrations are perfectly valid from your own viewpoint, but if you manage to learn to open e.g. firefox by typing "windows key + f + i + enter" (takes half a second), you won't miss icon shortcuts (as a side-effect you'll soon find the old way of mousing through menus a...

Re: System toolbar - how to remove?

OK, different method: Open Nautilus as root: gksu nautilus Click "File System" in the left pane, navigate to etc/apt/sources.list.d/ In that sources.list.d folder is a file called "webupd8team-gnome3-lisa.list", open it. Delete what's there in the open file and replace with the following one line: d...

Re: System toolbar - how to remove?

That's a bug in 12RC, when you add Oneiric ppa's the word oneiric is replaced with lisa, and then they don't work.

Run this command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/ lisa / oneiric /g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list
And do a sudo apt-get update again.

Re: Mint 12 RC - Noob's first impressions

After reading Linux Mint 12 Preview , I was expecting that if I boot into MATE (from the initial login menu) I would get only the old GNOME2-ish look and feel and nothing else. However, I do not see the difference between MATE and GNOME3; I am running only from the liveDVD for now. Am I missing som...

Re: Mint 12 RC - Noob's first impressions

2) The system seems to be very buggy - when i hit super key and enter some letters and then try to click on an application, it hangs. Also, several of the menus hang - when i open the app menu and close it and try to reopen it many times doesn't happen. Again, could this be a problem with me runnin...

Re: Where are the power management options in LM12?

Hmm, just gave the Ubuntu Tweak 0.6 alpha a go, there are no power options whatsoever. There were in the old one.

Re: My nitpick with Mint's approach

The fallback mode will be discontinued and abandoned as soon as the Gnome develeopers get the default environment to work with low end graphics cards and thus no longer need a low graphics fallback. The fallback session is not gonna be the future of anything. Otherwise a good rant! As someone who wo...

Re: Where are the power management options in LM12?

Power settings are somewhat abridged in Gnome 3 compared to Gnome 2. To get a GUI to have more power options, look for Ubuntu Tweak 0.6 to come out.

Open the power options in Gnome 3 by pressing the windows key, typing p+o+w and click the relevant program icon.

It also seems not common knowledge in here that Gnome 3.0 extensions/shell themes usually don't work in current Gnome 3.2

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

Not at the moment, no, but you might want to consider using MATE as default login session instead of Gnome (with Gnome Shell). MATE has just a bottom panel with menu, favourites icons, open window tabs, calendar and notification icons, and no top panel. See it in action here: http://www.youtube.com/...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

Trying 12/Gnome 3 on a desktop. Well impressed so far after much disappointment with Unity. Still learning my way around but I reckon I could get to like it when more options are available. Well done to Clem and the team. However I am thrown for a loop because I can't find any way to create launche...

Disable "Menu Extension", "Bottom Panel Extension" and "Window List Extension" (basically all mgse specific extensions) in Advanced Settings under "Shell Extensions". I'll see if this works out, but I remember enabling/disabling each option in the gnome-tweak-tool to no avail. I'll mark as solved f...

The new Gnome Shell doesn't work like that by default, but you can add this extension in order to have favourites launchers in the top panel: http://intgat.tigress.co.uk/rmy/extensions/index.html

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

How did you disable the bottom panel? Launch Advanced Settings, under "Shell Extensions" turn off "Bottom Panel Extension" and "Window List Extension". If the panel doesn't disappear immediately, log out and in again to see the effect. Me too. Gnome 2, looks so archaic after using gnome 3 for a whi...
