Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

It just adds confusion, though. Gnome has given a specific name to the shell, might as well use that when talking about it. And you might use default out of the box Gnome 3, but log into a classic session, in which case you are using Gnome 3 certainly, but not Gnome Shell.

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

Yes, but that's something else. If Cinnamon doesn't play well with your graphics, you're screwed, and it reflects poorly on Cinnamon. But it has nothing to do with how Cinnamon works, how many options it has, what's possible to do with it, etc. I suggest you watch the video clip and see how customis...

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

What you're talking about is Gnome Shell. Ubuntu 12.10 are Mint 14 Cinnamon also use Gnome 3. With a few extensions i have it setup nicely working exactly how i would want my linux desktop to look. I find Cinnamon a bit limited in options and aplets. That's certainly not my experience. Cinnamon does...

That's how Chromium looks. http://images.macworld.com/images/news/graphics/140630-chromium_home_original.png http://static.howtoforge.com/images/codeweavers_chromium_ubuntu8.04/big/9.png CTRL+Shift+b gives you a bookmarks bar. Re: Cinnamon proposed as default fedora desktop

If it's just some average user doing a formal request - news value = 0

I guess things get a bit too quiet in the Linux world when Canonical hasn't made a daft decision in weeks.

Cinnamon proposed as default fedora desktop

For some reason it's all over the Linux blogosphere today (and yesterday) that Cinnamon has been proposed as the main "desktop" in fedora 19. Maybe some fedora users can enlighten the matter but I don't understand the newsworthyness unless the proposal was put forth by a main developer. Anyway, good...

Re: Rolling release schedule in Canonical's near future?

But it's not a rolling release - it's a 2 year release scheme with "rolling" in between for those interested. I haven't read anything to suggest that package updates in the intervals without further ado will be pushed to the previous LTS.

Re: Rolling release schedule in Canonical's near future?

Brahim, the LTS releases will still be there and they will be the proper releases, with names. The rolling in between is for testers, developers and people who want the newest.

Re: Ubuntu Rolling Release?

All for it. The interesting thing will be how it affects Mint's Cinnamon edition. A new OS every 6 months is daft, and always was. There's a 3 year gap roughly between major Windows releases and a 1-2 year gap between OS X releases - much saner. But it won't be rolling in the strictest sense, it'll ...

Re: Difference between Ubuntu and Linux Mint

The difference used to be small but as of Mint 12 the desktops in the main editions of the two distros became very different. Ubuntu uses Unity, Mint uses either MATE or Cinnamon - they're all very different from each other. Mint does some of the common post-install tasks for you with better out-of-...

New Gnome DE: Consort

The SoulsOS crew have recently decided to fork Gnome 3's fallback mode - seen from the sidelines an inevitable progress of the project and likely a more viable solution than maintaining a cluster of patches for whatever trickles down from upstream. The Gnome landscape is becoming more and more compl...

Re: Mint 14 icon theme on Mint 13

No, it uses Mint-X icons.

Direct link to the Nadia mint-x-icons: http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main ... .1_all.deb

Try to install the .deb (by double clicking on it and following prompts) - if it refuses, extract the deb instead and move the folders manually.

Re: Fedora 18

That installer (anaconda) is... an experience.

Usually fedora is stable and fast, more so than Mint and Ubuntu on my machine at least, but I ain't wrestling with that snake again.

Re: Grey nemo

In Cinnamon Settings under Themes, changing "Cinnamon theme" doesn't affect the appearance of your windows or icons, they are shell themes only. Go into "Other settings" and choose a new icon set. The "Gnome" option has grey folders if that's what you seek.

Then Cinnamon just doesn't play well with your graphics card :(

Might be a solution for it but I can't help with that.
