Re: NETFLIX does it work on LINUX Debian?

Have you tried this: http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=23958? I have this working on all of my Debian installs. It has a step that's required for licensing handling on Debian. You need multiarch enabled if you have LMDE 64-bit.

Re: Manjaro 0.8.2

I tried the openbox and Xfce versions in Virtual Box before I installed first 0.8.3 recently and then 0.8.4 on my laptop. I like Manjaro a lot and think that as an Arch-based distro it has much potential, but it still needs a bit more polish before I'd consider using it as my primary distro. So far...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

Both the Nemo (file manager) and the Cinnamon (desktop environment) were developed by the LinuxMint Devs. As far as, I know - the only place you'll find Nemo is within a LinuxMint-based Distro. A number of smaller distros that have their own dedicated repos have nemo - I'm pretty sure Sabayon does ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

The biggest difference I see between the cinnamon package in debian and Mint are that debian doesn't have a nemo package. My guess is that it's possible that nemo could be added with the introduction of gnome 3.6. If you read the conversation on the mailing list about nemo, it seems that they find i...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Stable (For Those Running This Setup)

Thanks cwwgateway! I know every time a new version of Gnome comes out it breaks things. In retrospect it might be easier to do what I want with MATE as there is probably less chance of breakage. That sounds like a good idea. If I were to do a Debian Stable install I would choose either a DE in the ...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Stable (For Those Running This Setup)

OK guys, here is what I would like to do. I want Mint Cinnamon LMDE running on Wheezy, not Testing, sources. I wouldn't mind leaving it on Latest sources except that I'd rather this be Debian (new-upcoming) Stable. I know how to change the sources but I don't know if Cinnamon can be kept intact and...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

The sources.list seems fine. If you remove everything in your preferences file (including the entry for o=Debian), then you can uncomment experimental and have it be fine because it is set to not automatic as default. The o=Debian set to 500 gives all Debian repos, whether it be stable, testing, uns...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

The Linux kernel version 3.8 was released yesterday, and this is the one that drops support for i386. I know liquorix hasn't updated yet (can't verify the others). I'm curious to see if this is dealt with smoothly. I'm also waiting for iceweasel 19.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

The safest route is probably to remove the default Mint preferences file, since it can cause problems in the future as the current UP drifts farther away from testing/sid. I just got netflix working following a guide on the #! forums ( http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=23958 ), so I don'...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

I also just got steam installed on my Sid install. Has anybody tried to install any games yet? AFAIK installing certain games installs extra dependencies, and I'd be curious to see if the versions and names are correct for Debian.

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

I agree that the openSUSE installer (which I think is part of Yast2?) is really great - it's one of my favorites, probably on par with ubiquity. The only problem I've had with it is that in virtualbox the drive isn't big enough for two seperate partitions, but two seperate partitions are a very good...

But I do think it would not be a bad idea to keep an eye on where computing is obviously headed. Great, let me know when you figure that out. And let the rest of us borrow your crystal ball... I think the large growth in the mobile sector shows that there is an increased focus on mobile devices as ...

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

@dee. I actually meant easier integration with already existing cloud services. I'm not sure if it should be default, but integration with one or multiple cloud services would be really interesting - You could have Google Docs integrated into nemo, ability to automatically save files to the cloud (d...

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

My concern is the changing landscape to mobile devices. I am not confident Ubuntu is going to succeed there, and if it fails in that last hope, you have to wonder where Ubuntu/Canonical will end up. I would love to see Mint take a hard look at WebOS and/or Chromium OS or some other open source mobi...

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

openSUSE is funded by SUSE, but it is a community project and not technically affiliated with SUSE (besides the name). openSUSE basically has no official position on that issue. As for a base, TBH Mint doesn't contribute that much to the underlying technology of the system - for the most part they p...

Re: Using 'obsolete' distros

Rather than use an obsolete version of Mint, I would think the best solution would be to use something like Debian 6 Squeeze Gnome. You get most of what Mint 11 had, and support for another 18-24 months. Just my opinion. I definitely agree. Squeeze is a great release, and you can get many backports...

Etruser wrote:I am wondering: Will we get the bugfixes from wheezy in a new UP?
I think the next UP will be after wheezy is released, so all of the bug fixes will be applied. However, new package versions will start migrating into testing, so these packages may introduce new bugs.
