Re: Wheezy probably not in February

Notably, there are some here that get restless when nothing has broken on their machine that week  I'm looking forward to the release though... But I'll wait for quality. I haven't had anything break in months :( . While I like a good breakage now and again, I am hoping/planning to use w...

Re: Wheezy probably not in February

Thanks for the update. I'm kinda looking forward to the freeze ending - I'm getting unhealthy urges to install Arch  .

Re: firefox in mint 14 is a bad idea

I've been testing firefox 18.0.2 on two different linux installs, and on both they work fine (I've been using them fairly extensively). The two distros were Arch Linux and Debian Sid with iceweasel (Debian's firefox) from experimental, which is interesting considering both are bleeding edge rolling ...

Is the libc6 dependency still at version 2.15? AFAIK all debian branches except experimental are on 2.13.

DDG is pretty much the only Search engine that explicitly states that the do NOT abuse the rights and privacy of their users. Whereas Google on the other hand explicitly states that they WILL track your surf habits as best they can. Chrome anf FireFox browsers also have integrated search and URL fi...

Re: LMDE UP6 ISOs?

At this point I agree that the thread should be locked because the conversation is going nowhere. As far as the original question, it is very valid - you wanted to know when/if the MATE-only ISO would be released. I can understand - I've been waiting for the Cinnamon-only ISO. Assuming you're all se...

Re: LMDE UP6 ISOs?

Amending would be nice, although editing blog posts seems to be rare. The policy appears to be that later posts will be made to amend previous ones, and I don't have a problem with that because I read newest posts first.

Re: LMDE UP6 ISOs?

I think it would be more unprofessional to release an ISO before it's ready than to release an ISO late, especially considering the old ISOs still work and can be updated to the same condition as the new ones. There are very valid reasons for a new ISO (and sooner is better than later); I personally...

Re: LMDE UP6 ISOs?

I think the RC will come out next week unless any problems are found during the QA. I think the final version will come out later in the month, possibly around the 20th. I think it might take a bit longer before the RC comes out, depending on how many testers actually test the iso's and how many ti...

Re: LMDE UP6 ISOs?

The ISOs have entered Q&A: http://community.linuxmint.com/iso . Great! So would you have an educated guess as to the approximate time-frame for finally releasing these iso's? I think the RC will come out next week unless any problems are found during the QA. I think the final version will come ...

Re: LMDE never updates

I installed LMDE and did updates for pack 6 and i have not gotten any new updates since and that was a couple months ago...is this normal? When I had Linux Mint 13 it would update every couple days and LMDE none ? LMDE Updates, for the most part, come in Update Packs. Besides a few specific cases, n...

Re: LMDE Update Pack 6 isos

So are you saying that the new iso with UP6 and separate cinnamon and mate verisions is being delayed to wait for wheezy to go stable? I was really hoping that wasn't the case. The current iso's are getting a little long in the tooth and installing 1200+ updates (UP 6) on a new install of lmde is p...

Re: Why does 14 Nadia boot but not LMDE?

I could see it not booting and giving some error, but I don't think it had a chance to boot (or fail to boot) the kernel. Unfortunately, most new windows laptops (so most new laptops in general) come with secure boot and UEFI, which I have no experience with and which introduces many new quirks, esp...

Re: Duck Duck Go, Chrome and revenue for Linux Mint

I agree - that was a great post by Clem. I'm glad I understand the "enhancer" part now, and it does make sense. I'm also happy to be sure that no personal data is kept (other than the usual google/yahoo/etc stuff). This kind of reminds me of the Debian popularity contest package; in the De...

Re: Is there a Good DEBIAN BASED DISTRO?

I'm not sure if I understand you... LMDE is a distribution based (somewhat loosely) off of Debian's Testing branch. MATE is a desktop environment which will run on Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch, Sabayon, and lots of other distributions. So if you use MATE on LMDE or Debian, then you are st...

Re: Is there a Good DEBIAN BASED DISTRO?

I too wanted a pure debian based distro. One reason being that I like their rolling updates... release when there is something worthy of release and when it is ready not artificial forced release every 6 months... LMDE seemed a nice compact package but at the end of the day one of the applications ...

The new LMDE ISOs are almost ready and they should enter QA sometime this week. As previously announced, LMDE will come in two separate editions for MATE and Cinnamon.

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

I've been trying lots of distros lately (openSUSE, Arch, Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.), and I have installed gnome shell on a few of them. AFAIK all of the distros' Gnome Shell packages are called "gnome-shell" (although I believe arch has a group called "gnome", but I think gnome-shell ...
