Re: firefox in mint 14 is a bad idea

I can't comment on Firefox 18 in Mint 14 specifically, but iceweasel 18.0.1 works fine for me on LMDE upgraded to testing (iceweasel pulled from experimental). However, on Windows I had to "downgrade" to firefox 17.0.2 ESR because firefox 18.0(.1) kept crashing constantly.

Re: Jumping to Testing or Sid

 with that introduction?? i'm afraid "they" won't come even close   It was a very... conservative introduction. Personally I find UPs to be reliable until you update to the next one (I wouldn't say they were "rock solid" ). Regardless, it's a very good t...

If you look here: http://packages.linuxmint.com, you can see that the Mint 15 repo is named "Olivia", so I'm guessing it will be called "Olivia".

Re: Duck Duck Go, Chrome and revenue for Linux Mint

Ok ... I have Linux Mint 14 now ... here this obligatory "enhancement" isn't ... visible. Maybe you have 14 too and that's why you didn't find it? So ... problem is solved. Nevertheless I would like to hear an explanation for treating/informing users that stupid ... Right I have 3 pure De...

Re: Multiple Panels With Dual Screens (Cant Remove)

The desktop you are running in the screenshots isn't Cinnamon, it's Gnome Fallback mode. This is probably due to bad graphics card drivers (although you say you have them enabled, so I'm not sure). What is the output of typing the following command into the terminal?

Code: Select all

Re: Desktop Cube effect

Currently, the cube does not exist in Cinnamon. Previously, this effect was done by compiz (and kwin in kde), and compiz isn't compatible with Gnome 3 (and therefore Cinnamon). I suppose it would be possible to create an extension, but that's way out of my league. Just as a note, MATE and Xfce can b...

Re: Duck Duck Go, Chrome and revenue for Linux Mint

Thank you for your reply, but ... 1. it's not at all easy to deinstall. Not at all ... it doesn't help to just deactive this "add-on" in Firefox. That's where you find it - on the one hand. But it is so deep in the system, it doesn't help to deactive this addon. 2. What I find most disapp...

They aren't selling your private data... Any data that is sent is sent in the same way as when you use normal google, which may have its own privacy issues (that's a story for another day), but it's also the most popular search engine in the world (AFAIK; there's also that chinese one that has a lot...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 2 Dec

What packages are being upgraded? I'd assume one of them now depends on gnome-shell, and I don't know which one that would be. As for the second question, switching from testing to wheezy would increase stability because wheezy would be "Stable." You could switch to wheezy and then switch ...

If I wanted to try out systemd, how would I do it, please? Many thanks. I installed "systemd" and "systemd-gui" and ran as root: nano /etc/default/grub Then I changed GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line to read the following following: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet init=/li...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

I also have no errors with kernel 3.7 from liquorix (64-bit). This makes me think though - has anyone switched to upstart or systemd on Debian? I just tried systemd in VBox and, while VBox performance is hard to measure, it booted in basically the same time (although because of VBox it isn't too acc...

Re: Adding Debian security repos to LMDE sources

zerozero is very right, and I believe that when UPs were originally introduced, they still used the Security and Multimedia Repos, but they caused problems (I'm not completely sure though, as that was before my time with LMDE :) ). I believe that the LM team would update any packages that have signi...

Re: Duck Duck Go, Chrome and revenue for Linux Mint

AFAIK there isn't any "enhancement"; it's simply a way for LM to generate revenue, and I would think that using duck duck go (which I prefer) will be a better way to go in the future. Using the "enhanced" search you generate revenue for LM, and using DDG in firefox or chrome with...

I've installed the 64-bit RC too. That's actually a really good point that I had forgot about - Oxygen is, ironically, one of the only gtk 3 themes that is a binary and also supports xfce. I haven't done much yet besides install, but everything seems fine. Edit: I completely forgot to mention that t...

Re: have the repositories changed for mint13 (Mate)?

Unfortunately this has been a problem for a few releases (I think) - a few users have had the installer overwrite all of the repos with the mint release name. Change "maya" in all of the entries except the first one to "precise" - these are all repos for Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pang...

Just have a feeling that there may be others that may not want this feature request. Pat Interesting... tha...
