Re: Gnome 3 is horribly slow
I have had the same thing happen (sort of). In virtual box this happened out of the blue. MGSE (with 3d acceleration, etc) was fairly fast, and then it slowed down one day. Just gnome-shell/MGSE, not gnome classic or MATE. I have no idea why - IIRC I didn't install anything (besides updates maybe?)....

Re: Strange behaviour with cinnamon
This is just a slightly informed guess, but since autohide panel was just added in the latest release (1.1.3), I guess there are a few quirks. Another guess, which might be unrelated, is that the way the taskbar is coded, it overlaps everything. For example, if you hover your mouse of the mint updat...

Re: Change user in Cinnamon?
Just checked cinnamon, apparently if you lock your computer (lock button in the menu), the lock screen has a switch users button.

Re: My thinking about CINNAMON
@cwwgateway No disrespect intended, but the whole point of cinnamon is to provide a more traditional desktop. If you just have the overview menu, it is basically gnome shell. Why not just install gnome shell??? I can answer that point very easily. It is the declared intention of the gnome devs that...

Re: Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+Del
bimsebasse, thank you. Windows key... yes, it opens the menu, but this menu does not simplify my life. This menu can be manipulated only with a mouse and it is kinda difficult. And the right border jumps here and there, which drives me mad. I'll tell you why Alt+F1 menu was handy: it let me switch ...

Re: Change user in Cinnamon?
I cant find out how to change user instead of logout. Is it not possible? I hadn't thought about this but it's actually a very good question. The gnome-shell menu which has your username on it has that ability, but cinnamon doesn't have and (at least apparent) graphical way to do it. The ability is...

Mint 12 Installer Frozen
I was (and am) trying to install Linux Mint 12 onto an external USB hard disk. When I launch ubiquity, I select my language, and then it goes to the screen that says "For best results, please ensure that this computer has..." When I click "continue," only the installer freezes :(...

Re: Mint menu search field functionality wanted
Mint menu search field worked great in Gnome 2 searching repositories and local files. Why it should be disabled in Cinnamon? I really really miss it! Does anyone know how to enable it? As the above poster said, the menu was written from scratch and it is still lacking some features. Remember, Cinn...

Re: My thinking about CINNAMON
I downloaded CINNAMON & log in to it. I saw there is no top panel, no add to desktop yet, a bottom panel with panel icons & menu(exactly like GNOME 2), an INFINITY sign for over view mode, no favorites & menu in overview mode. I was totally surprised & disappointed. I wonder, why th...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon
Yes, I know that MATE and Cinnamon are still in early development, and will improve over time, but no one really addressed my original question. Why bother adding all this stuff to Gnome3/Shell instead of just replacing it with an established, user friendly DE. As I understand it, MATE/Cinnamon wil...

http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/100 Not that I wish to rain on anyones parade but Katya KDE got to 100% tested and was still binned. There may be some way to go just yet :( What I was wondering: Will there be a kubuntu based version every half year or will it be an LMDE based KDE or both or...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?
My biggest hang-ups are the lack of desktop icons and not being able to easily create or remove icons in the Mint Menu. I did try Gnome 3 and MATE again while I was there. You can have desktop icons in gnome 3 by enabling them in "advanced settings," and they are enabled by default. There...

Happy Christmas everyone! I've been using Cinnamon for a few days and really like it. i do have a question though. i installed Cinnamon on my Virtual Box testbed and all looks correct, but I notice that when I installed in on my production system I have an extra icon in my menu which says "Deb...

Yes, it is. Re: Mint 12 KDE
I am not primarily a KDE user, but I feel the need to post this. I think that with all of the projects that Clem is doing, he is doing more than he can. I think that he should either set a realistic deadline for things (there isn't a testing iso submitted and it's Christmas Eve. He wanted to have it...

Re: Wobbly Windows.
You can't use compiz with gnome shell. You can use it however with gnome classic (gnome shell fallback). I actually tried to add compiz to startup apps and gnome shell simply didn't start. All I had were desktop icons.

Re: Mint 12 Live CD Problems
Have you tried booting into the live cd? Mint 12 uses gnome 3 by default, and gnome 3 isn't compatible with compiz (it uses mutter). Therefore, compiz isn't installed by default so you should be fine. Edit: Scratch that, compiz is installed, at least on my box, but it doesn't activate unless you exp...
