Re: Roadmap for next versions?

Although there is no "roadmap," here are some rumors (from what clem has said, projects, wikis, specifically the mgse wiki, etc): Linux Mint 13 will have some improvement to mgse, which will most likely feature one bottom panel and logoff/shutdown/etc incorporated into the menu, as well as...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

I was trying to get to the blog (blog.linuxmint.com) and typed in bog.linuxmint.com , and it turned out to be a website about cinnamon. I think that cinnamon.linuxmint.com is the official site. Has anyone else seen this site? There seem to be a number of comments on the news on the site, but I haven...

Re: Me-TV

I would like to provide more detailed instructions, but I don't really know what me-tv is (other than some googleing). Also, I would check to see if you can use sound in other apps. If not, then it probably has something to do with your sound card (although I'm not very good with hardware compatibil...

Re: Clem is awesome.

I also think that mint 12 doesn't in any way suck. I can tweak the gnome shell so that there is one bottom bar with a menu, windows list, workspaces, etc, I can run Cinnamon, the above mentioned for of gnome shell, I can run gnome classic, and I can run MATE with compiz looking EXACTLY like mint 11/...

Re: another desktop by Clem?

No, compiz won't work (as far as I know), as cinnamon is a fork of the gnome shell and therefore isn't too much different in the case of window manager. Cinnamon will use mutter.

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

What's the reasoning behind having the notifications in the top right? Would it not make more sense for them to be located with the system tray (wherever a user chooses to have it)? What notifications are you referring to? The only thing in the top right is the infinty symbol which brings up the ac...

I agree. However, there is already a thread for Cinnamon, and you can add suggestions there - http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 75#p516175

Re: Linux Mint 12 (Lisa): Desktop problem?

Just to clairify, as some people have trouble with this, you can do log into gnome classic by clicking the little gear icon next to your name in the login manager and select gnome classic no effects from the dropdown menu and login.

Re: Installed 12, No taskbar top or bottom, can't resize etc

I'm not an expert at problems like this, but try logging out and clicking on the gear icon next to your name in the login manager. Select "gnome classic" from the dropdown menu and login. If this works, then either there is something wrong with the gnome shell (it didn't install correctly?...

Re: The newest ADOBE Flash Player install problem...

Which version of mint did you install - cd or dvd? Flash is packaged with the dvd version, and you can install it on the cd version by going to the welcome screen (which is a program called welcome screen) and selecting "add multimedia codecs" (you might want to upgrade to the dvd edition ...

Re: Firefox upgrade

I think that that is the version of Firefox which came with update pack 3, so there is no problem. When update pack 4 comes out, it will have an updated Firefox. I think that the team is waiting for bugs to clear up in debian testing for gnome 3/X11, which were broken at some point upstream. Edit: Y...

Re: Release Question

Linux Mint 12 Lisa and onward (presumably) will use a combination of gnome 3 (or possibly a gnome 3 fork called cinnamon - more on that in a sec) and MATE (a gnome 2 fork). Mint has add MGSE (Mint Gnome Shell Extensions) to gnome 3 to make it look and act more like gnome 2 (it has a taskbar, a menu ...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

Now using Mint 12 Cinnamon. Why? Because it is shiny and new, and I like shiny and new. Also, it is much more integrated, faster, and better for my workflow than mgse. Looking forward to it getting polished up and added to Mint 13/14.

Re: Where are some useful old features?

Sorry, Advanced settings is a program which you can search in the mint menu/activities overview. The icon is turning a picture of silver turning gears, and it's under the "other" category. It's also added to your favorites list be default IIRC.

Re: How to pin apps to panel / taskbar?

You can do this in MATE. If you installed from the dvd version, logout, click the gear icon next to your name in the login manager, and select MATE from the dropdown menu. Then login. It's a little ugly at first but you can change your theme to whatever you want, such as the themes from LM 11/10/9.

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

I think that MATE and Cinnamon will be shipped in Mint 13 (or maybe 14), as Cinnamon I believe is to replace MGSE with a more integrated desktop environment. So, it's almost an evolution of the extensions, so to speak. If you look at the git page, they are basically turning the extensions into defau...

Re: debian installation

I would like to applaud the mint team for their graphical debian installer. It's SO much better than debian's, even if you have to manually partition (as apposed to ubuntu's auto partition option).
