Re: List of Bugs

For #3, use the following code to start compiz:

Code: Select all

compiz --replace
You can add that command to your startup applications.

Re: Where are some useful old features?

Linux Mint 12 Lisa upgraded from gnome 2.32 to gnome 3, which was necessary to stay compatible with ubuntu's code base. Gnome 3 is lacking a lot of features and customization at the moment. That is why the mint devs created MGSE and included MATE. But to the point of what you want done: 1. To get th...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

I tried to install it but when I logged into the cinnamon session, there was just the desktop with icons, there were no panels or anything else. This also happened when logging into the gnome session. MATE worked, though. I'm reinstalling into VBox, so I'll see if it works then. Should I install it ...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

I voted on this a while ago, but just got around to the why. I actually voted for Gnome 3 + MGSE, but I have changed to MATE because 1. The original reason is that MATE is faster and more responsive than the Gnome Shell 2. I actually find MATE more stable than MGSE, although both are very stable for...

Re: Another DE option for Mint 12 - Cinnamon

Is there anywhere with some more info on this? I read the webupd8 article, but I can't seem to find too much else. It looks great, though, and I'm installing it now on my Lisa Vbox installation.

Re: debian installation

I have to agree that the Debian 6 graphical installer is lacking in comparison to Ubuntu's/Mint's. I only tried once, but it couldn't connect to my wireless network with a WPA2 password, but it thought it could connect, so, after it had partitioned my hard drive, it failed to download the packages t...

Re: can I add win linuxmint to window boot manager?

So if I understand you correctly, you installed mint4win? If you did, "Linux Mint" or something of the sorts will appear in your add/remove programs list. If so, then I agree with the above posts, try EasyBCD. I think that you have to start it, click "add new entry", click the &q...

Re: [SOLVED]Just curious, how much longer is LM10 supported

As far as I know, you can't boot into mate from a live cd/dvd/usb, only into Gnome 3/MGSE or the fallback if your hardware doesn't support acceleration. So it isn't active during the live session, but once you install it it is there. However, when you install Linux Mint, Gnome 3/MGSE is the default ...

Re: How to go back to Katya-style interface

While I don't think that all of these are possible with gnome 3, you can try the MATE desktop, which is a fork of gnome 2 (with the mint menu, etc). To access it, if you installed from the dvd edition, log out, click the gear icon next to your name in the login manager, select MATE from the dropdown...

Here are some screenshots of Mint 12 with MATE looking identical to the last 3 releases: Linux Mint 9: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6528622607_ef6bf1c690_b.jpg Linux Mint 10: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7141/6539773077_a7c8b64a88_b.jpg and Linux Mint 11: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/65...

Re: [SOLVED]Just curious, how much longer is LM10 supported

MATE is included on the dvd edition. I got that quote from the release notes. Here is a screenshot: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7157/6539686221_098fb64f7d_b.jpg MATE is, in my opinion, basically stable now. If you read the quote, which is from about a month ago, it says "it's not completely s...

Mate, when you change the theme, looks just like the old mint. Here is a screenshot of Mate almost exactly like Isadora:

Re: Linux Mint 12 niggles

Although I don't know how to fix most of these problems, the MATE project had to rename Nautilus to Caja so that it wouldn't be auto updated for gnome 3. I don't know if you need both or not.

Re: [SOLVED]Just curious, how much longer is LM10 supported

It has both in the DVD version. They are both in the release notes: MATE MATE is a fork of Gnome 2 which is compatible with Gnome 3. Thanks to MATE, you can run both versions of Gnome on the same system. MATE with Caja and mintMenu MATE is present on the DVD edition of Linux Mint 12. Users of the CD...

Re: [SOLVED]Just curious, how much longer is LM10 supported

Yes, non LTS versions of Mint have an 18 month support cycle, so in April 2012 it will stop being supported. Just as a side note, LM 12 has MATE, which is a fork of gnome 2, which can be made pretty easily to look exactly like Mint 10.
