ah too bad this was false "alarm", right the next day firefox behaves as strange as before, with all the acceleration turned off and also in safe mode it will just crash with no infos in the console, sometimes sais "segmentation fault" but usually nothing ;( @ cosmo I ll restart ...

Thank you all for your kind help!! It seems that disabling hardware acceleration on both firefox and chrome did the trick, and it was enabled by default on all the distros. I have to test more, but it looks already very stable..!! sometimes it s a simple click in the preferences, but someone had to ...

oh thanks for that advice, yes, i use a vga cable adapted to the dvi output. I ll buy a dual dvi cable and give it a try tomorrow!

I have twoo exactly the same screens that i connect for dual screen to my ati graphics card. the monitor on the vga output shows the right output resolution of 2048x1152 , but the monitor connected to the dvi output always gets a wrong res...
