Re: Grub issue

Right. You can expand your existing Linux Mint partition in most cases, but it depends. Is one of the unallocated sections before Mint, and the other after? Don't delete your swap. Like I said before, it is best to have, when installing, deleted all partitions, then installed so you use the whole di...

Re: Is it possible to install Mint 13 dual boot on netbook ?

Yes, the 32bit ISOs don't work with mint4win even though it is there on the ISO, sorry, broken.

If the CPU is 64bit, sure, I think you can, even if it is Windows 32 bit. If CPU isn't 64bit, you have to dual-boot or something else instead of mint4win.

Re: Grub issue

No prob :) Mainly you can resize and format with Gparted. Post screen shot of what you have with Gparted and

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l
ext4 is fine if you don't use Windows anymore.

I see you got the same error with Ubuntu 12.04 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12007086#post12007086 You wrote at the end: Before I tried Ubuntu, I installed Linux Mint. It went all the way through the install, then I had to go into compatibility mode to install the proprietary NVidia drive...

Re: Mint13 installed - Doesn't start up? Fails at fsck check

Well, sometimes a version doesn't play nice with one's system. However, did you try to install Mint more than the one time? Sometimes you have to reinstall. So, now from Ubuntu, fsck works fine (manually)? Did you do a RAM check and a low-level disk check before installing Ubuntu? Terminal commands ...

Re: Reinstall Linux Mint?

From the Live/Install DVD/USB, remove the partition with Mint with the partition manager, then reinstall to that partition.

Re: Grub issue

Are you saying you get a menu, then it auto boots, or you get a menu, then you have to pick Mint? You have a few Windows type partitions (NTFS or vfat). If you want to use your whole disk for Linux Mint, it would be better to use Gparted (gui partition editor) from a LiveCD or USB to delete all part...

Re: Mint 13 Maya Cinnamon Modem-Manager boot error

I don't know. That sucks. However, there is a kernel boot parameter noapic also (as opposed to noacpi), maybe try that. I don't know about this kernel 3.4.1, it seems a lot of hardware conflicts are coming up, but maybe that's just the nature of a forum. Tried removing the modem-manager for now, the...

Re: Grub issue

Are you saying you get a menu, then it auto boots, or you get a menu, then you have to pick Mint? Yes, you can customize what GRUB does. How many partitions show up if you do a sudo fdisk -l (post output)? See here; https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Boot_Display_Behavior You can edit the /etc/...

Re: Putting a XP installation after Mint 13?

I use the mbr backup method with dd also. It is faster, but ensure your dd commands are correct. Also, if you restore with dd, and you have changed partition sizes, or number of partitions, only restore the GRUB mbr portion, not the partition table; dd if=/path/to/mbr/backup of=/dev/sdx count=1 bs=4...

Please read the release notes for your distro. Search the forums before asking a question. Ask questions, but by all means, use the standard litany http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jonathan.deboynepollard/FGA/problem-report-standard-litany.html man pages are good to get more info about commands used in ...

You modify the linux line at boot, add it somewhere near the end, you might have to tap shift at boot on an installed system.

Re: Mint Installation Quick Question

If Logitech doesn't have Linux drivers (no surprise), you can run lsusb -v and dmesg and hunt for the device name, then see if you can find a vendor code and google something like "Linux <blah> driver", or even "Linux Logitech mx driver." Most drivers were reverse engineered and recreated for and by...
