Re: How can I access partitions from a live Mint 11 DVD?

"From your live DVD, open Gparted it should list all your partitions" Thanks for the reply. That is what I tried and it shows the entire hard drive as unallocated. I have been trying some things and managed to purge the grub and make a new one. However, the new one only allows me to enter Wi...

How can I access partitions from a live Mint 11 DVD?

Hello, Before when I had to reload Windows, I was able to reload Mint and reestablish the multiboot. This time, when I use the Mint 11 DVD and click on install, it shows my whole hard drive as unallocated. I am not able to access any of the Mint 11 partition that is on my hard drive while using the ...

Re: when I plug in headphones, my laptop speakers still play

Hello jweb29, My husband had a similar problem with his desktop. In his situation, he runs a line to the stereo for the audio and the tinny front speaker on the PC would still play. Here is how he fixed it. Control Center \ Sound Preferences \ Hardware \ Settings for Selected Device \choose Analog S...

Re: How to switch from KDE to LXDE

This is a very interesting thread. I am interested in the mechanics of switching, too. I have heard it mentioned that you can save the 'Home' folder and after a reinstall copy it back in and then have everything you had before. To do this I suppose you should eliminate all special effects from the d...

Re: Burning MP3's to DVD using .cue files = how to make .cue

After researching I figured out that 'cue' files are not the war to accomplish what we want. We have found that most of the DVD writing programs in our Mint 11 allow changing the META data. This works great for our purpose.

Re: GTK+ theme 'Lightning' not installed

Hello, problem solved. I upgraded to the DVD version (suggested in the Start Menu) and that 'fixed' it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

SOLVED: mint seems to have taken over - can not enter PC BIO

This is an humbling experience. We could claim it is 'age related' as both of us are close to 70. Also, could say it is 'burnout' related, Within the last month, my husband moved to the HP computer. Since then he has used Win 7 & XP, Zorin5 and Mint11. Plus, my Dell went belly up. The images I moved...

SOLVED: Pointer is a fat, black X at Boot up

Well, Got that issue solved. My husband had added 'metacity' to his menu and had to open the menu and click on it to change the X pointer to a normal white pointer. I suggested we try to add 'metacity' to the 'startup.' When we tried that, the part we were to fill in wanted more data. We opened Menu...

SOLVED:mint seems to have taken over - can not enter PC BIOS

My Husband has another problem. When he does a reboot, the Mint Grub comes up. When he does a cold reboot the Mint Grub comes up. No longer does he see the computer boot screen with the option to press Delete to enter setup. What's going on with that? It has not happened to me yet, but I suspect it ...

SOLVED: Pointer is a fat, black X at Boot up

My husband installed Mint 11 at the same time as I did. He has a HP xw4400 Workstation. When he boots into Mint the pointer is always this X . Somewhere we got the suggestion to run 'metacity.' That fixes it but it is tiresome to have to go through the steps to run it every time he boots. Can it be ...

Re: GTK+ theme 'Lightning' not installed

Thank you for your reply. I did as you said and installed all the 'theme' things I could find but still no 'Lightning.' It is necessary to get the pretty turquoise color I used with Crux borders. I can live without it, or if it bugs me enough, I will just save my 'home' stuff and reload. I have hear...

SOLVED: GTK+ theme 'Lightning' not installed

Guess I was too aggressive in removing things. How do I reinstall this theme. I have lost many options in 'customization' of window borders.

Thanks,

Re: I lost window borders

Hello, Reporting this happened to my husband's installation today. We both installed Mint 11 a few days ago. I had selected to Customise Mint-X-Metal and the Crux border and have not lost my borders - yet. Grateful for this thread. I have bookmarked it for if/when I will need to run the 'fix.' This ...

SOLVED: using .cue files = how to make .cue?

Hello,

My Husband and I are wanting to burn a DVD and want to use a .cue file. Does anyone know of Linux software that does the file? We want the names to display on the DVD player. Doing so in the computer is easy.

Suggestions appreciated.

Re: Foxconn Nettop - can't mute internal speaker in Katya

Hello imperfect10, Thank you for posting this thread! My husband and I both loaded Mint11 on our computers. His is connected to the stereo. When he would play anything for us, it came through his PC speaker, too. Ugly scratchy sound, yuck! Following your post he plugged a jack into the headphone con...

Greetings from North Central Florida

Husband and wife team here. We have our computers side by side on a large desk. Installed Mint 11 and are learning to love it (and that is not difficult). Last try at Linux was Simply Mepis back in 2007. To technical for us back then, not that we have improved, oh no, no! Linux has improved. Much mo...

:D Hello, My husband and I have just installed Mint 11 on our respective computers. This is our 2nd try at using Linux, the last was 5 years ago with Simply Mepis. We were on dial-up and setting up the modem was frightful. At that time, I kept the OS as a dual boot but seldom used it. Actually, it w...
