Which LM is best for oldish laptop: 13 LTS or 16? [Cinnamon]

Hi all, I have an oldish Sony VAIO with an AMD Mobile HD3450 graphic card: it seems that the standard AMD proprietary driver doesn't support this card anymore, there's an AMD legacy driver but it's limited to an older, specific version of X Window. I've installed LM 14 Cinnamonon it some time ago, a...

Re: A possible solution for automatic security updates

Most security fixes are for packages other than the Linux kernel or the X.org server. You can review Ubuntu's security notices here: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/. Those that are about the Linux kernel or the X.org server don't immediately or necessarily translate to being a security issue for you. Ma...

A possible solution for automatic security updates

While I agree with Clem that this is basically a storm in a teapot, and a wasted day of work on the latest RC, I realized that there actually is a security "problem" for Linux Mint security updates. Let me explain: what I've done so far was to apply all the level 1-3 updates, let the kerne...

Re: GUI is not running after update

Even if the GUI is not running after boot, you can still login with your username/password and then start it by means of "sudo mdm": this will bring you to the login screen where you can login again and start Cinnamon. Very annoying, but I'm still forced to do this because I guess the same...

Cinnamon won't start after update to 2.0

Hello everybody, waiting for LM 16 I updated my current LM 14 install to Cinnamon 2.0 using the stable PPA: all went well until yesterday I updated the MDM display manager package as well, because now MDM won't start at all as a service and my box boots straight to the console; at that point even st...

Re: MDM not working (as a service anymore)

Sorry to "necro" the thread, but could you tell me what was wrong with those config files? Because I'm having the same problem, i.e. MDM not starting, after I installed Cinnamon 2.0 under LM 14.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Mint 15 Where: Cinnamon Settings; Window Settings?

Maybe your desktop doesn't give you the flexibility you want in specifying the way you want the desktop to operate, but that is genuine GNOME 2.x thinking. I'm afraid I've deleted the last GNOME 2.x partition from my disk, but iirc: no, it is not. The split normal/advanced settings had been rejecte...

Re: Mint 15 Where: Cinnamon Settings; Window Settings?

Just a small rant. I find the setting for normal and advanced mode a little pointless. It just seems to hide away some totally arbitrary settings and makes absolutely no sense to even have. I absolutely agree, to the point that I opened an issue about this (well in advance the final desing of the s...

Re: Cinnamon hogging system resources

Hi there,
are you using the 32 or the 64 bit version of Linux Mint Cinnamon? Since you have 6Gb RAM the latter should help.

Re: How to speed Cinnamon up.. or Chrome?

I have the following hardware Memory 4GiB CPU Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz × 4 GPU GeForce GT 220/PCIe/SSE2 and Cinnamon 1.6.7 feels very fast and lightweight, even in terms of needed memory (177 MiB at the moment). Don 't know if it's the CPU that makes the difference 'cause it's not that...

Re: Scrollbar and Titlebar settings in Cinnamon

I've found this issue: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/739 but as you can see it approaches the problem from the "I want the middle click back" angle, and it's been closed anyway.

Re: Scrollbar and Titlebar settings in Cinnamon

1. On virtually every OS I have ever run, clicking on the scrollbar below the current position of the slider will make the window scroll down by one page. However, Cinnamon on Nadia causes the slider to go to that exact location in the scroll. For instance, clicking at the halfway point will take m...

Perhaps the same functionality could be added to one of the numerous applets handling removable devices? No idea of how difficult that would be, mind you >.<

Re: 'Safely Remove' option missing

Is there a software that can have an hard disk stop after unmounting it? Would be a good alternative in this specific case, and if it were an applet (or easily reachable from the menu) I wouldn't mind using it instead of the Unmount option.

Re: Print job prints again and again

Similar problem here: clicked on "print now" by mistake and couldn't find a way to cancel printing, went to the control panel but the "stop" icon[1] just didn't do anything, it stayed greyed after clicked on it but notifications continued to pile up. I could fix it, ignoring the ...
